My account got reset
I was playing and decided to switch characters and got a notification that there was something wrong with my account error code orange from what I remember and when I tried signing back into game it quickly reinstalled the game and told me to choose a class to play afterwards.

A post from another player who has experienced the issue and is now able to access their characters as normal: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/263778799/0/0 Others who have said they have made new characters in place of missing ones still have their old characters and progress visible in the app, but it’s best to not create a new character just to be safe.
