Shaxx is probably corrupted too... Drifter was able, mostly, to escape the shackles of the darkness.

I hope to learn more about exactly why... soon. He even calls himself a "Coward" respective those events... I would say that's who the Drifter is normally... a "Survivor" vs. impossible odds... yes, but not actually a coward.

Oh heck yea Drifter is 🧠and 💪. The fact that he's suffered so much and yet is still alive just shows how smart and strong he is. wait, seriously??? Drifter ran from Cayde? Where is this, in lore? Cause I must read this

He was created to put an end to the darkness... that IS, in part, a construct that makes up who the Drifter became. That's why I think he ran. As I clarified, in an edit... the exact account, we don't know that... but Germaine has talked about it 'in-game'. They eventually, obviously, ended up as allies. It's like an old martial arts movie... or Dragonball.

I assume by corrupted you mean Savathun's song in which every major character (Except maybe Zavala) has heard it. This plotline seems like it was abandoned really fast likely since with basically every character having heard it bungie didn't want to suddenly try and use it as it'd destroy the story more than something like Lightfall did. That or it was being used to lure people away from what was Savathun's real plan with the light.

The song and skull hanging above his head. It hasn't been abandoned. We're just deeper into the Endless Night than we've ever been.

The skull was being used by Savathun to transfer the song around the city. Everyone has heard it from our character to just about every major character in the game. Bungie has fully abandoned the plot since if they brought it back they might as well stop making the story. Also the Endless Night is gone Quria might be alive but it sure as hell ain't doing a full fake simulation of the entire events of Final Shape and post Final Shape.

The endless night is a metaphor for every dark timeline permutation of the universe. How do we know our instance qualifies? Veil Containment. Maya only loses herself to the darkness, as prophesized by Subject 13, in the Endless Night. I agree with your first few sentences. The Vanguard is a farce. We're the bad guys... always have been.
