Precursor to rapid fire heavy GLs, they were aggressive which did the same damage as adaptive GLs but faster rpm. That was changed in shadowkeep so that they sport lower damage than adaptive so that there is a clear difference. Skip to now and the new weapon for FotL is a rapid fire heavy GL that nobody ever wanted. Even with its sterling perk pool, adaptives are superior through damage alone and you see that in Trials with its adaptive heavy GL being far more desirable than that of FotL's. Another example, Tarnation also being a rapid fire heavy GL and yet I see nobody ever use it. So, what can be done? Make a bigger difference between them both through gameplay functionality and roles. Have rapid fire heavy GLs have a bigger blast radius so that they can ad clear far more effectively while leaving adaptives for pure damage. It will leave more options on the table for ad clear besides just using a heavy machine gun.
