PVP Matchmaking

How does matchmaking actually work for PVP? My group is noticing that we either have the best time or the worst time in crucible, there is no inbetween. Also, did the mercy option for crucible matches that have a 50 pt spread get removed? I'm tired of getting sniped and slide shotgunned in every match and bouncing between getting demolished and doing the demolishing. Very rarely does it feel like a 'good match' because the teams were actually on the same level. Take today, I only played 2 matches and the spread was this: 35 kills with a 2.75 k/d ratio 7 kills with a 0.78 k/d ratio When we are having fun in crucible, it's the greatest thing, but the fun never lasts.

  • Which mode were you playing? Because different modes use different matchmaking types. In general... "CBMM" modes use host-connection and fireteam-size to determine who to match you with. "Skill" doesn't factor in at all for who makes up the Lobby. If Lobby Balancing is present in the mode, it will decide the teams. "SBMM" modes use a combination of (host?) "skill", connection, and fireteam size to determine who to match you with. SBMM can be tweaked to be more strict (matching based more on "skill") or less strict (matching less on "skill"). Regardless of strictness, SBMM prioritizes connection over "skill," so when there aren't many players online, the "skill" consideration is practically ignored. Lobby Balancing is almost always present in modes that use SBMM. Your "skill" is determined by an unknown algorithm Bungie created. It uses factors associated with winning to determine your "skill" relative to others. The confidence of their calculation increases the more you play, so as you keep playing, your "skill" changes at a slower rate. At the moment, Lobby Balancing is the major weakness of D2 PVP. When everyone in the Lobby is a similar skill, Lobby Balancing performs okay. When there are outliers in the Lobby (outliers are players who have a very high or very "skill" relative to the other players), Lobby Balancing SUCKS. In my opinion, most of the 1-sided matchups in Destiny stems from the Lobby Balancing they do. SBMM helps mitigate how bad it is, but SBMM can't work without a large group of players to pull from.

    • Not just match making. It's one out of 10 teams knows how to capture zones to win while your teammates just stays in one spot defeating opponents. Control isn't that difficult to play and it's simple like baking an apple pie. I dislike snipers how the players auto-lock onto my character's head and then kills them. As for shotguns does take skills except for those sliding with it. Also Bungie needs to nerf the grenade and ice rift that the Warlock has in a Titan's bubble. When a player has the Helm of Saint-14 and the Offensive Bulwark on then it should almost be unstoppable while they are blind. These fixes needs to be addressed and fixed in the near future. Seems Titans need a buff while using our Saint-14 helmet and Offensive bulwark.

    • It’s the broken claim servers. One team has no aim asst (sticky) and rubber bullets. The other is all headshots all while taking Jack for damage. it will flip but by then it ideally a lost cause. Bungie needs to address this in a statement so people actually know wtf is going on!!
