I wouldn't call what Ahamkara do "magic". The Hive practice magic and it can take time to do. There tend to be rituals involved and the outcome isn't nearly as spectacular as what an Ahamkara can produce. Humans probably just called what the Ahamkara do "wish magic" because they didn't know what else to call it. I think what they do is paracausal in nature. For example, if you desire a cheeseburger near an Ahamkara, a cheeseburger just appears. That's pretty cracked, even to billions of years old Hive magic standards. They can manifest anything you "want" immediately, without causation. It just becomes real. My theory is that only paracausal entities can spawn other paracausal entities, like the Traveler making the guardians and the guardians inherently have a measure of paracausal power. I think the Ahamkara are like this. I personally think the Ahamkara were created in direct correlation with self aware beings in the presence of the Traveler for extended periods of time. The thoughts, emotions, hopes, fears and dreams of a civilization, turning into a metaphysical soup of psychic energy that mingled with the paracausal energies of creation from the Traveler, resulting in crystalline "eggs" blinking into existence from ever fluctuating states of possiblity of mortal desires. I don't believe this was intentional but incidental. Also, the Ahamkara seem to be so incredibly adept at sensing desires and thoughts of self aware creatures that they know of our (the player's) existence in another reality, hence their ability to break the 4th wall...which they probably get nourishment from and keeps them deathless. They are bound to mortals because they were birthed from their very egos and psyche's. All I'm saying is if my theory is correct, there could be numerous fledgling Ahamkara in the Last City hiding in plain sight.

Wish Magic wasn't named by Humanity. Ahamkara said this. That's their power. Now, I forget to detail the Wish Magic. The Ahamkara can only use it, if they are captured. They can only use their power if one makes a Wish. This was something Mara discovered with Riven. The Wishing Wall is a way to vet the Wishes she made. It's like a big decoder so Mara could see what Riven wished for and stop it from taking hold. So she would input a specific sequence to trick Riven. The Ahamkara are also not bound to the Traveler or the Dark. They can pull directly from the Fundamental Forces of the Universe. I don't see the Ahamkara being made from ego. Yes in Lore, they followed the Traveler, but not as "Followers" because In Theory it's because the Ahamkara need others to make a Wish. And the Traveler went from civilization to civilization. The hive magic is "Death Magic" which is linked to Darkness. The process is very different.
