Destiny PVP is in a really terrible spot. The matchmaking and leaving penalties are a little too much. Firstly, lets quickly talk about leave penalties. There should be no penalties for leaving a "quickplay" match as people just play it for fun (or atleast they used to). People have many things that would happen during quickplay matches, ie. maybe parents need help, power switched off, someone in the household needs help in something. Too many situations could pop up out of no where and Bungie using these penalties as a solution to the high amount of players leaving, is honestly not it. Players are leaving for several reasons, first being the matchmaking (we'll talk abt it later here), the awful map rotation where players are getting the same 5-6 maps without seeing any of the other 15+ maps, and un playable matches as a result of the lag that we started experiencing (seriously getting shot behind the walls is the norm now, just like y1). Bungie give us the able to vote for matches like Call of Duty did since the very early days and loosen the matchmaking a little bit so playing becomes a little more bearable.
Now, let's address the matchmaking problem. Mentioning this always somehow ignites the community but ill simplify it, matchmaking should always be cbmm especially in quickplay gamemodes. People tend to shift the argument into saying that the quickplay is just the higher tier players "playground": and i'm not going to lie, it sort of is. But, I think they deserve it. These players spend years of their lives to improve their skill, and their being punished for it? Bungie gives credit to the players that spend time in PVE, they give them Titles, Badges, cool -blam!- weapons, and much more. They make them feel like absolute Chads wiping out every ad from existence. And the players obviously show their achievements off, but what do PVP players have? PVP Players only have 3 titles, 2 badges, and 0 interesting weapons to attain from PVP. What else can they show off? Stats. Everytime a PVP players shows off his stats everyone replies by calling him sweaty, tryhard, etc... And to be fair, that really shouldn't happen. There is nothing to show off in PVP other than his stats, his comp rank doesn't matter, it doesn't matter how many times he reset his crucible rank, and it really doesn't matter how many kills he gets on his weapons. PVP players were the ones who get the tough end of stick and still are for a couple of years, if they invest time into the playlist, they get punished by harder matchmaking, they get nothing they can show off and if they decide to show of their stats, they get flamed by the entire community. Furthermore, the biggest shot to these PVP players was the sbmm. Your making the game more sided to the casual players and that is wrong, your making the same mistake that was made in Year 1. The only ones who keep the game alive when everything else is dead in the game are the PVP players. Honestly, Bungie you most put more attention into PVP and to cater towards these dedicated players. Yes, the new players are getting destroyed by these more experienced players but that is because of the lack of explanation and guidance to them in PVP. There should be a proper tutorial or quest that introduces these players to PVP, like a match where the player goes against bots or something until they get a hang of the mechanics and how fast paced these games are. I doubt Bungie will do this because its going to cost them alot of resources but still, the solution to newer players suffering in matches isn't sbmm. This decision should be reversed or the PVP population of this game is going to plummet, because the casual players aren't going to be spending hours everyday playing PVP, their just going to play it for a few matches, complete the few bounties and their weekly challenge, and then their off. Let's just hope Bungie hears our cries.
