Vex Mythoclast comparison and other exotics

(Note, I do not take responsibility for any part of the dps spreadsheet. All I did was add the damage bonuses to the existing calculations to see how the different guns would compare. This is here just to make sure everyone understands and that I don’t get in trouble over anything. Just making sure) Dear Bungie: I’ve compared Vex Mythoclast very tediously to other exotic primaries and I’ve found that it’s linear fusion mode is still a bit lacking even post buff. The main example being Tarrabah because it has a similar charge mechanic and with ravenous beast active is perhaps the top candidate for best primary weapon DPS. I used the destiny 2 dps spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12vF7ckMzN4hex-Tse4HPiVs_d9huFOKlvUoq5V41nxU/edit#gid=1908444501 and I reconciled the DPS numbers from Ehroar’s YouTube videos on D2 Vex and came up with this comparison: Vex base DPS: 7,367 Vex catalyst DPS (+20% damage): 8,840 Vex linear fusion DPS (only 3 shots): 13681 Stochastic Variable multi-kill clip x 3 DPS (+65% damage): 11,596 Huckleberry dps Rampage x 3 DPS(+65% damage): 11194 Huckleberry Rampage x 3 + ride the bull x 2 DPS (+65% damage + RoF increase): 13992 Hawkmoon x 7 paracausal shot DPS: 12549 Tarrabah Ravenous Beast DPS: 16153. these numbers are all calculated purely without taking external damage buffs into account as most of the external buffs don’t apply to vex only. Judging by these 1 mag dps numbers, Vex’s linear fusion mode doesn’t do quite enough damage per second, and even the primary form looks like it could still be buffed a little further without breaking the gun. This is especially considering it’s an iconic raid exotic. First I wish to talk about the linear mode then later the primary form. For the linear mode , I suggest either a 10% damage buff up to about 15,049 DPS, or allowing the catalyst damage buff to stack with the LFR mode. As long as Vex is buffed to be roughly on par with Tarrabah in terms of DPS, it should be fine. It should be noted that Tarrabah is not used in PvE solely because it can’t be stowed without losing it’s charge right now. If Tarrabah were able to be be stowed while maintaining its charge in exchange for charging significantly slower than it does now in PvP and not charging any further when it is stowed that would likely be enough to make Tarrabah viable in PVE. Also boosting its charge rate slightly in PvE for killing rank and file tier combatants would likely finally push it to be on par with the proposed Buff for Vex Mythoclast here. The resulting change would make Tarrabah have the niche of sustained DPS for being able sustain its maximum DPS for longer Due to bottomless appetite, whereas vex only has 3 shots before having to reacquire temporal unlimiter. Furthermore, Tarrabah would have roughly equivalent 1 mag DPS while being much more forgiving due to faster RoF and matched body-precision damage. Lastly, Tarrabah would have the further niche of incredible ad clear and single target DPS simultaneously while it’s overcharge perk is active, whereas Vex’s linear fusion mode is solely focused on single target DPS and its primary form wouldn’t be as potent in raw DPS vs Tarrabah’s ravenous beast. In exchange, Vex’s linear fusion would be easier to charge, have higher range, and have greater single shot/burst DPS. As for the auto rifle form of Vex Mythoclast, please do not nerf it in PvE, it’s perfectly fine where it is in PvE and isn’t breaking the game. it’s in a very good spot and is very reasonable compared to what other top PVE exotic primaries should be like. In fact, a slight buff to the damage bonus of the catalyst likely still wouldn’t break the Vex considering the other competition. For example, Huckleberry as shown above is a DPS monster in close quarters with rampage x 3 alone and technically never has to reload as long as it gets kills. It is further boosted with ride the bull x 2. This makes Huckleberry fantastic in close quarters ad clear and it can kill slightly tougher enemies pretty well too. Then there is Dead Man’s Tale which is better at longer ranges while still having very good max DPS albeit not quite as high as Vex, or even stochastic variable. Tarrabah, like I said before, has the greater ad clear combined with better sustained DPS for its overcharge. With what has to be done in order to obtain and max out Vex, it’s auto rifle form should be pretty top tier in PvE for being a raid reward and an iconic one at that. Besides, another reason the auto rifle form should be pretty top tier for a primary is to help compensate for the poor crowd control of the linear mode. As for the buff I would suggest if one were to be given, it wouldn’t need to be anything more than a 10% additive buff to the catalyst’s damage buff and likely more around 5-7%. This would make the catalyst a 25-30% damage buff instead of the current 20%. I’ve herd of the people crying for a nerf to Vex’s catalyst in PvP due to a 0.6s TTK against other guardians. If this is too broken in PvP, just make the bonus damage for the catalyst only apply to PvE. Once again, as stated previously, Vex does not need to be nerfed whatsoever in PvE. If you nerf it for PvP reasons, please either make sure it either doesn’t affect PvE, or is compensated for in PvE. The other main thing making vex truly op in crucible is the LFR mode being able to gain 3 stacks of overcharge per kill against guardians, I personally find being able to get 3 essentially free kills with vex in PvP with only 2 kills to be a little absurd. Likewise a similar situation with Tarrabah. To fix it in PvP, make it to where only 1 stack of overcharge is rewarded in PvP for temporal unlimiter, and likewise Tarrabah should require the user to work for that ravenous beast perk in PvP. That would solve any issue with the LFR mode in PvP. Since Vex Mythoclast is a pinnacle PvE reward, it should significantly favor pve activities. It should especially be able to be viable in pinnacle PvE activities. I personally never understood the idea of making all the op crucible guns drop from PvE and the op PvE guns drop from crucible. It just seems a little silly to me. The changes suggested would make Vex and Tarrabah finally be the truly great raid rewards they should be, with each of them having their own specific niches for exotic primaries in PvE content. At the same time, they would remain balanced in PvP and would require the player to work for their temporal unlimiter/ ravenous beast overcharges.

Supplementary comment to this post, I’ve herd of how overpowered vex is with path of burning steps, font of might, and charged with light. The problem is not vex itself, but these external buffs that make it powerful. The thing is that most people ignore that these buffs can apply to other guns other than Vex, even including legendaries. Even exotic heavy weapons like Sleeper and 1k voices could be potentially abused with these mods/fire walker. To solve this, I would suggest making font of might not stack with charged with light specifically. Likewise, path of burning steps could be nerfed to grant about 20% maximum bonus damage after one kill instead of the current 40% after 2 kills while still allowing it to stack with charged with light or font of might. This would make the effect more balanced for not only Vex, but other solar weapons as well.
