Edit: TLDR: Sbmm needs to return for the health of the crucible and it’s players. It’s frustrating to fight sweats who stomp you or to be the sweat who stomps a low skill player. Also don’t be saying you don’t want it back if you’re one of those sweats who wanted it gone.
Collectively I have logged well over 3,000 hours across both D1 and D2 with a good portion within PVP. I would like to think I know what I’m talking about to some extent after such time.
I know this will never be seen but I just want to vent my anger about this issue that has been bugging me since they changed matchmaking after shadowkeep. Bungie I beg you to bring back skill based matchmaking to all pvp modes. I understand the logic behind removing it to reduce match queue times for the higher skilled players, but that reason alone shouldn’t be the driving factor for a decision of that scale. I have been an avid player of the crucible across all my years of Destiny and these past couple years in the crucible has been utter hell.
Ever since then I have either gotten matches where most players are vastly above my skill level leaving me to feel worthless as a player, or a match where I do the same to those who have less skill than I. I’m speaking from experience, it’s not fun to run against players who’ve been Flawless 100 plus times when I’ve been once while having major help from guys who were able to carry me. In the time since the change in my feelings to crucible have worsened, and with the lack of content for it, has made it even worse. Please bring back skill based matchmaking, because it is literally killing the crucible player base aside from those who are in the higher tier skill levels. Part of the reason there are so few newcomers to trials is because the crucible itself is a daunting unfair task for any new player and those who lack the skill. I’ve moved from pvp content to pve because I can’t stand playing against sweats all day anymore and it’s part of the reason that after I’ve done most seasonal content I drop it because I don’t want to play crucible.
For perspective I used to love to come home from school every day itching to play crucible and show off my skill and best others of my skill level, and hone those skills to become better, but now with more and more sweats in all of my matches it’s sucked the fun out and I can’t improve if I die off respawn to a guy who is much more skilled than me.
I know many won’t agree with me, and many more will just say to Git Gud or stop playing but I don’t want to, I want to enjoy the crucible once again, So Please Bring Back what made the crucible fair, what made it playable and fun, Bring Back Skill Based Matchmaking.

Team is looking at the Crucible and ways in which it can improve. Not promising SBMM will return, but we're looking through feedback on maps, modes, matchmaking, and more in hopes of improving the experience over time. Thanks for the thread, and cheers to all for conversation happening below. Keep it clean and be respectful.

I use "manual matchmaking". If the game doesn't fit the rules i quit. My rules are made by me for me. So add your own rules... * i don't like to be killed by the same guy to often in a row * too many vex mythoclasts, a new one... * lagging players i can't damage * freezing when somebody takes aim at me * if i'm the last in my team for too long. * enemy team has multiple hunts in a row * etc., make your own. And remember : you bought the game to have fun, if it isn't fun for you don't play it. You have no obligation whatsoever to the other players. Leave the match anytime you feel like it, or just stop playing crucible for a while (and then think about if D2 is still worth its quarterly fee...). The problem of small player base, long queues and slow connection due to great distances are nothing new and there are workarounds... All with their own drawbacks, see (some of the) discussion above (some are ... strange arguments)

It’s is 100% unfair to be matched against over 2.0kd players and you get matched with below 1.0kd. And I’ve noticed way more connection issues now than I ever have before
-
It's goiing to be a war of north & south between those with 1.0+ k/ds that want easy matches to stomp in and those who struggle that are sick of getting stomped. Internet "Connection" rarely has anything to do with it, it's 2021, not 2005...... Team balancing is actually a bigger issue atm with a majority of the games I play end in mercy. Hell, even the SBMM comp matches I play should end in a mercy after 2 rounds after the other team wipes us with few or no kills.. The longer crucible stays bad like it is now, heavily skewed towards the top players the more people will move on from bothering to jump into Crucible. They are going to continue to get destroyed 3x a week for a +1 pinnacle engram...

ttbh i didnt read your wall of text but sbmm and cbmm dont work we need a mix and stacks need to face stacks screw the wait time for them if they wanna stack then they wait
-
So many angry people in here. I agree it should be Skill based matchmaking or you end up with terrible matches, all the time. more than 50% of my matches end in mercy. If you had people of a similar skill level being matched, this wouldn't happen. And to those of you saying "get good" - this would help people get good! when you play better and beat those at your skill level - your skill level increases. surprise. and the matches would be WAY more balanced. I hate being 1 shot from the far side of the map by someone I can't even see with an auto rifle. And that happens more than I care to say. Crucible used to be fun when it wasn't a sweaty slaughter in every match. Lobby balancing sucks. Matchmaking based on internet connection sucks. Period.

hi, someone knows how to unlock the prismatic extractor because i crearte another guardian but can't use it. And i made a lot of misions but nothing
-
Shut up bring SBMM back just to have people complain again they've had enough throughout the 4 yrs of D2 bungie been going back and forth with that dude first was CBMM then SBMM now we're back at CBMM you want SBMM kid go to Survival and Trials
-
I think sbmm has no place in casual modes. If I wanted to match players of my skill I’d play ranked type modes like survival and elimination. Also a system that 1) reduces matchmaking time 2) can cause worse connection 3) discourages friends playing together Should not be in casual modes. Simple as that

Edited by Rageous: 8/28/2021 2:23:01 AMSBMM is 1000% back in Destiny 2. There is an alarming amount of people commenting on it. -Que times are longer. -Matches are sweatier. -Matches are so laggy. I know what DMG said below, but I absolutely do not believe him. There is too many people complaining about it for it to be a coincidence
-
No, keep SBMM for competitive modes only. Quick play does not need to feel like Trials or comp just because certain players feel like other players are better than them in a non competitive space. You can never improve if you play people that are the same or worse than you are.
I understand the logic behind removing it to reduce match queue times for the higher skilled players, but that reason alone shouldn’t be the driving factor for a decision of that scale.
It wasn't, there were many reasons. Connection quality dropping dramatically due to a smaller player population was a big one. Also queue times weren't just ridiculous for top tier players, I have around a 1.0 k/d and had a 5-10 min queue sometimes, and then the matches were full of rubber banding and players taking 0 damage that could shoot you through walls. No, sbmm does not work for many reasons, it has a LOT less to do with what a handful of very good players want than people are willing to accept, because really they just want to blame anything else besides their own lack of skill or motivation to get better. Sbmm will not help you accomplish anything other than getting shot through walls by people that teleport across the map.

You have a 0.9 kd Just keep practicing bud.
-
I have a question, do you think what we have now is connection based? Because every match is russia and china and brazil and germany on the other team while I'm in north america. That is NOT connection based. So if that garbage matchmaking is their version of cbmm why do you think sbmm would work?
-
Edited by kellygreen45: 8/26/2021 2:17:45 PM1. I think Bungie is planning on doing that. Based on the fact that they have basically added it to Trials (something I never thought they'd do)....and what they are doing with account security. 2. Paragraphs...please. From someone who used to write in walls of text like that years ago. You have no idea how much of a headache it is trying to read something like that without losing your place. Its a courtesy thing, really...... Edit. Thank you. :))

Yes please. At least one 6v6 mode where skill is considered.

Breaking idols - old
Just an FYI , I came back to play after taking a year off, the first three control matches where horrible.. unbroken and flawless players, seemed like they could not miss. I play Apex legends on switch and to have a competitive game you have to disable cross play. So I went and checked, huh cross play is on by default.. I switched it off and yeah it took alot longer to que up, but way way way worth it. Next match was competitive and better. Just a thought -
I agree, it puzzles me that people are so against playing against others in the same skill gap.
-
But how will streamers that play this game for a living be able to post their 70 kill games?
-
I totally get where you’re coming from with sbmm but there are draw backs like matchmaking time and connection so I think the best solution sounds like a better team balancing system because sometimes I feel like the system throws me into a team of people who aren’t good at crucible or are new it (both are 100% okay) and throw the other sweats on the opposite team, leaving me essentially alone to fight the other team while trying to help my team not get mercy ruled. I’m not a game developer so I’m not sure how hard that would be to pull off a better team balancing system but it’s an idea
-
SBMM would ruin their plans to feed people into Trials.
-
Watch they add SBBM and the OP complains that the queue times are too long between games. Just keep mixing the bad players with the good player. Good players can help bad players get better. Also, bad players make good players try harder to carry them to a win.
-
Jesus stop trying to make this like cod where you have to sweat every single game just to play
-
It's a casual game though, sbmm shouldn't even be mentioned in this game.
-
SBMM doesn't belong in Control.
-
Please watch this you really don't want SBMM. The last time SBMM was over a year ago. Just watch it
