Program can't start due to mysterious missing file (win7, 8, 10)
Getting this error after battleye starts
Windows 7
This has been reported on Windows 8 and 10 as well.
Reinstalls haven't helped, replacing dll hasn't worked, reportedly upgrading to Windows 10 has had some success but also some failures.
Patience is required, but silence isn't
If you're having the same problem, please post here so we can keep the pressure up.

Our issue made it to the top of the issue list in todays TWAB, so we have some progress, however shallow it may be.

9 RepliesThis is starting to get redundant now..No answer yet..even the smallest amount of info would be respectful to us. I noticed on Twitter and such this issue is appearing minimal to Bungie, and this is totally unacceptable.

1 ReplyThanks a lot for making this thread, if nothing else at least we can keep pressuring Bungie. I've also encountered the same bug, running Destiny 2 on Windows 7 was never a problem, besides the super low fps in cutscenes since beyond light, but ever since the Season of the Lost update it won't even launch the game. The game doesn't even start loading or anything it just dies with a missing " " error message. Lets keep this tread alive

1 ReplyOK I got my windows 10 to work I ran sfc /scannow and it fixed some file then I went to settings in steam and ran all the check file integrity and where and a few other boxes like location then rebooted the machine and when the anti-cheat box popped up you must accept and install that. then it just loaded right up. Now my windows 7 machine is still no go it wont load on that and I have tried everything under the sun and it just wont work.... Hope I was some help !

3 RepliesI'm awfully sorry to say I'll "abandon the ship" soon enough. One of my clan members kindly lent me a hand to choose and asmble a new PC on which win 10 should run smoothly. Cost me a (huge) fortune but I'd be able to play destiny 2 in a week or so. To be frank, I don't really think bungie will fix this fatal error in months... maybe even years?... (All of this reminds me of the cyberpunk 2077 incident. Not a good year for the gaming industry I guess.) Good luck fellow guardians. I still hope you can find a way out of this troublesome situation.

I have both the x64 and x86 Visual C++ (2015-2019) installed version 14.25.28508.3 on my Win 7 Pro. The "missing" file was not installed.

2 RepliesBungie, I only purchased Destiny 2 and a Season Pass to hang out with my friends. Some of those friends can no longer play D2 so we'll now find another game to play together. There's 40+ of us and we're all going to be spending our money else where. Your failure here isn't just impacting a few who have directly experienced this issue.

8 RepliesUpdate to you all!!! Bungie in this thread just said: ”We've already reached out to BattlEye and neither they nor us believe this is an issue caused by their service. Rest assured that we're actively investigating this issue to determine the cause and how it can be solved. We believe this issue is related to something Bungie changed in our builds for this release” I take this as that the issue actually have came forward to them and is being worked on. Hang in there everyone and lets hope it gets solved as fast as possible!

1 ReplyI'm running on windows 8 and still having the issue while my friend's destiny 2 on windows 8 works perfectly fine. I don't know why Bungie is not acknowledging the issue and ignoring it like it's OUR problem. Bungie has a record of breaking their own stuff and coming to save it like they are actually the HEROES.

By the way wanted you all to know that I contacted a couple of my friends at Forbes, the gaming department.. and I explained what was going on and two of them are definitely going to investigate and help push this issue.. they're good at digging at the truth..

4 Repliessame problem here "destiny 2 exe. is missing" ive tried everything to try to fixi. im furious as having over 7000 hours invested bungie you need to pull that anti-cheat untill you get it figured out,or I guess they just want us not to play i guess that whats gonna happen because im not spending 150$ on windows 10 and hope that fixes the problem? ah I guess its time to move on anyway

I was about to go buy Witch Queen's $100 bundle before booting up the game but I'm glad I didn't. Would have wasted $100 if I did. Specs probably don't matter as it's an OS issue, but in case it does, my CPU is an i5-4690k and my GPU is an RX580.

6 RepliesWhat unsettles me the most is that no BNGHelp accounts have come in to acknowledge the issue or affirm that they're trying to fix it. I get a dreaded feeling they're about to drop a "Win 7 is no longer supported" announcement and post an official "solution" that you need to upgrade to Win 10. Or maybe they'll leave it as an "we're looking into it" status like they've left the prerendered cutscenes stutter since Beyond Light launched. Nothing will be done for a couple weeks or months, and then ... *see previous action* Hope I'm being overly pessimistic.

Trying to bump this thread to get an answer like the rest of you. Im running Windows 7 and get the missing file error at launch, and have tried the prescribed fixes short of upgrading to windows 10 since I dont hate myself that much at the moment. Also! I happened to try launching the game from the actual .exe and got the same error but with a file listed: 'api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll"

5 RepliesI'm running Win7, can't launch the game. When Beyond Light launched all the cinematics in game were ruined for me (and not only me). They run at 3 fps, they are very hard to skip and if you dont skip them the game just crashes (still hasn't been fixed yet btw). And now the game won't start at all.
