a friend got me to try it. said it was a combo of an action JRPG/hack n slash/whatever and BotW. i like both those things so i tried it to play with him. plus it’s free
can’t really say i was disappointed because my expectations were rather low going into it and it hit those. the combat is kinda just spamming one button with a couple cooldown abilities thrown in and the ability to switch party members. it’s not terrible but i see it getting old pretty fast, especially when factoring in the grinding and loot boxes necessary for optimization
the world is smaller than BotW’s. well i haven’t been around all of it but my friend says so. and like BotW a good portion of it still seems like empty space. while BotW has a good amount of shrines, koroks, and other little stuff to do along the way Genshin has less of that. takes some of the fun out of exploration and traversal.
story seems pretty interesting, though a good portion of the characters are annoying generic anime girls with the shrillest voices known to man, which kinda ruins it. the dumb little fairy that follows you around is the worst one. i’d like to just stab her in the face and strike out alone
as for the gacha/loot box mechanics, they’re apparently just for the endgame and supposedly not that bad, but that’s going off of what my weeb friend says. he was addicted to FE:H for like 4 years and i think he’s just happy getting new anime girls to look at every so often.
overall i’d rather play an actual action JRPG/hack n slash/whatever like NieR or Kingdom Hearts, or just BotW over this weird amalgamation of the two. though take this all with a grain of salt because i’ve only played for a few hours on mobile as it’s the only platform i have that can crossplay with my friend on PC. i may give it another try when it’s out on a better platform but even with better controls i don’t see myself enjoying it all that much
i’d give it like a 5/10: not terrible but not really my thing

I see a lot of crafting skills tied to the characters but what's the end game after you get the team you want? If you pay to win and get bis characters what do you do then? Is there an auction house for gear? Is it multiplayer for PvE?

I see it as a palate cleanser or meditation. Something to just take in at face value and dig at it little by little. The combat isnt perfect but its satisfying visually

Genshin Impact is interesting, but its not f2p friendly at all. If you want a specific character, you’re kinda forced to spend money to guarantee you’ll pull them, and even then there’s a chance you won’t get the character you want when you reach pity. 3 months of continuous play, and you get enough primogems for 20 pulls as a f2p. Pity is 90 pulls. That means you’d have to play the game EVERY DAY for about 13.5 months in order to get enough primogems to hit pity, and even then you’re not guaranteed the character you want. In order to guarantee pulling a character you want, you need to reach pity TWICE. That means, as f2p, you’d have to play every day for 2.25 years to get enough primogems to guarantee the character you want.

It's probably not like a JRPG cause it's Chinese...
I feel like everyone hates Paimon's voice, and I just feel like I've either become numb to high a$$ voices (or at least, I've heard higher and worse) or everyone else is overreacting.
The music p good though, ngl. Especially in Liyue

I enjoyed it until I found out I couldn’t actually progress if I played with friends
