The best way I’ve found is to get as close as you can as fast as you can. A few strikes to their legs, and they come clean off, stunning them briefly. Once yu break one leg, it’s easy to break the others, keeping them stunned.
Other arrows won’t insta-kill them, but a shot to the eye should stun them as well, letting you get close to start hacking their legs off.
And finally, if you can git gud at parrying them, reflected lasers will make quick work of them.
It’s also worth noting they’re considered “Malice” enemies, so the Master Sword will power up when you’re near one.
Edit; also, fighting them early on is generally not a good idea. You should generally just run past, or otherwise avoid them, until a bit later in the game.

are certain weapons more effective against them? well Ancient stuff and the Master Sword obviously, but like other things? and does it matter what shield you use to deflect the beam? i’m too afraid to try anything aside from a guardian shield, and when i blocked it (not parried) it broke after a single beam. i hadn’t used it otherwise i kinda can’t avoid this one. it’s just plopped right in the middle of the road to the Goron city that i haven’t gotten to yet. that and i need parts from it to upgrade Stasis. thanks for the tips

I don’t think so. Ancient & the Master Sword are the only things they take bonus damage from as far as I know. If you’ve been stockpiling higher damage weapons for emergencies, now would be the time to use them, though; Guardians are probably the hardest enemies in the game. I think you can parry their lasers with any shield, but don’t quote me on that. I was never too good at it, and it definitely wrecks your shields pretty quick if you can’t get it down, so I didn’t try too often. Aside from sniping their eye, I think you can try freezing them with Stasis to get close. Even if you can’t deal enough damage to kill them once their “I just lost a leg” stun wears off, they can’t walk anymore when they’re legless, letting you either run away easier, or dodge/snipe their lasers better.

do i have to upgrade Stasis to be able to freeze them?

As a Destiny player I did a double take seeing this reply.

Uh.. Maybe..? I’m not sure. It’s been a while. >.<

i am getting into the game hella late lol. i would need to kill it first to upgrade Stasis so i’ll just use a bunch of arrows

You can find all the necessary parts for the upgrade to Stasis in Shrine chests too if you're having trouble.

Yeah, I’m not the biggest fan of it either as you know, but I will admit it’s fun to pick up and play for a bit every now & then. I’d still recommend taking out its legs if you can. Snipe it in the face with an arrow, then run in close. They’re a lot less of a pain when they can’t walk.
