  • What I wrote about is an example of cognitive dissonance. It can happen when you see two things you know to be true existing in the same space. In this case I fully accept how Destiny's game mechanics work but I also know how firearms and combat tactics work. So when I see a revolver in the game ejecting spent cartridges, despite knowing how it functions as a fantasy gun in the game, it goes against all my previous experience about how a weapon of that type works in the real world. Both thoughts exist at the same time and so create a kind of 'tickle' in your mind. Here's the full definition of it: "Cognitive dissonance is a term for the state of discomfort felt when two or more modes of thought contradict each other. The clashing cognitions may include ideas, beliefs, or the knowledge that one has behaved in a certain way."
