Exotic Catalysts

Can we all agree that if an Exotic is put into the game that it needs a Catalyst right from the start? My main reason is that they drop orbs with Catalyst and so having to weigh that factor detracts from how good I feel about the exotic.

  • It would be cool if you could equip the weapon for the catalyst you need, and then do a Ledgend Night Fall and get the non completed catalyst.

  • Not at all. Most exotics should be used by players in game so Bungie doesn’t make their catalyst over powered or the catalyst can be designed to boost a less useful exotic. If you design them to come out at the same time as the weapon then they have to be useless and generic rather than fitted to the gun and it’s place in the game.

      • They need to see how an exotic performs among the playerbase before they put something on it to make it better. I’d say they could playtest things but this is Bungie we’re talking about

          Imo, I feel like exotics in general, even without a catalyst, should drop orbs of light.

          • Im still waiting for Chaperone and Frenchy bow catalyst. We going into Year 4 for D2 and there's Year 2 exotics still missing a catalyst

            • They need to change the way Catalysts drop. Say, doing a certain activity will drop it guaranteed or even just a higher drop chance. If you don't want to do that activity, it can drop from anywhere else.

                Can't stand when an exotic has no catalyst. It looks so unfinished without the shiny border. Also add PvP kill trackers to the exotics that only have PvE kill trackers. Every exotic weapon should have both. Example: Wardcliff Coil.

                • Not having a catalyst isn't really the issue for me its that I can masterwork it to have orb generation. I like charged with light builds so I flat wont play with exotics that cant drop orbs unless I'm just screwing around in patrol.

                  • I believe the concept of catalysts came about as a way for bungie to fix exotics that they intentionally made weak. This way it adds artificial grind.

                        • Just letting them level up with use to unlock kill tracking and orb generation would be enough. They shouldn't tie that stuff to catalysts. Unpopular opinion but I feel catalysts, when done right, should never launch with the weapon. Catalysts like the rat king and trinity ghoul are great to bring life back to an aged exotic. Maybe one day they'll go the borderlands route and have random rolls on exotics while keeping their perks. This could make getting drops you already have rewarding . They would have to fix collections first.

                          • The point of a catalyst is to improve upon the gun not as a buff but to add a new aspect after earning it. Kinda like a reward for using the gun and working on what feels like a mini-quest for it. Many games have similar things like when you go on a quest with a starting weapon and by the end its a better weapon. You wouldn’t go and say “why wasn’t this weapon like this from the start” you would think “i worked hard on this quest to improve this weapon to its current state”

                              • I also think they should do away with exotics as drops - rather they should just be an innate perk on the gun that has to be unlocked the exact same way as now - but perhaps to offset it already being present, the tasks would be longer. I think catalysts from specific sources was dumb. It's the main reason that I have 1 shot left at my Telesto catalyst before it's gone forever. It should have just been build in, and then completed as normal.

                                • What they should do is have crafting stations like division 2. The way they do it is to generic Sucks really Then you will.have the pvp crowd Whining to there bungie buddies Oh its to OP. Screw them the ruin every thing good in this game But if you craft your gear any anybody can have OP gear even if your not the 10% who only has it. If everyone is Op then its not Op right Save load outs in game like division does. Be. Ice to see that imo.

                                  • What I don’t get is why exotics don’t just have them built in like passive buffs. The Seasonal exotics like Eriana’s Vow make sense to have their cats only obtainable via their quest and it does makes sense to have Acrius’s obtained via Prestige Leviathan, but weapons like Sleeper and Telesto that have zero relation whatsoever to EoW and SoS, Izanagi having its catalyst locked behind Heroic Menagerie, Sunshot, Prospector’s, etc. Those? That’s just dumb. You get the exotic, either have a quest for its catalyst to be unlocked or just have its catalyst built in and actually masterwork it to make orbs after the catalyst progression is finished. That makes sense. Bungie’s decision does not.
