I actually only play two of those modes with any regularity, well actually it will be 3 now since they removed SBMM from Iron Banner. I think as far as Control and Clash if one of them had to be SBMM it should be Clash. The problem a lot of people have is that they don't know what SBMM actually entails. It does more than just match by skill, it also uses catchup mechanics/damage referee more heavily so that could be problematic for Control because it just straight up sucks when you want to capture a zone but the game has decided that its not going to let you kill someone because its trying to keep the score close. Clash and Supremacy, even with CBMM, seem to use shot-registration based catchup mechanics much more heavily than control so if one of them had to be SBMM it should be Clash. I agree with you that its probably time to put Classic Mix/Quickplay out to pasture though. Supremacy can go in the rotator. But that's if it had to be one or the other. I would rather they banish SBMM totally and come up with an all new system where how much you win was based more on how good you were and then give some type of rating that is connected to but not totally based off of your top-secret, always going to be hidden, don't bother asking cause their not going to tell you, skill rating that the game already calculates for everyone. This way, even if you aren't the best you have something to play for and something you can compare to other players. I was thinking something with both tiers that are more (but not totally) static and a more fluid rating that moves within those tiers for people who like to watch numbers go up and down in real time while they play. As far as Trials, its fine as is and as far as Comp... I'm going to pass on talking about Comp because I'm mad at that playlist atm. Me and Comp are currently seeing other people.

  • Thanks for responding. Even if I don't completely agree. Mainly on the Control/Clash thing because Control literally takes more skill than Clash. I've seen too many blueberries just ignoring zones; including in situations where we absolutely needed a zone. Or just unable to capture the zones because they are too busy running in a straight line at the zone to realize they are being shot. I watch them just helplessly die to the Flawless and Unbroken players on the other team and they never have a chance. That's why low skilled and casual players should be matched with other low skilled and casual players in Control. So they can wander around and learn the mode without just getting stomped all the time. Clash is just mindlessly shooting as a team so it makes sense to have CBMM. This is why we need SBMM in some modes. Some modes require more thought than others and low skilled/casuals need places where they can't be farmed all the time. Plus other places to go where they can improve against better players if they choose to do so. So I think my list choices are fine. I sorta know what you are saying about SBMM... Mainly because how it works is all speculation. We simply don't know. But I don't think that "catchup mechanics" involving "ignoring hit registration" or "negating damage" actually exists in the Crucible. I think if you don't have shots register, you don't see damage numbers, or whatever craziness happens it is generally bad connection for either or both parties... Or It is someone cheating. But I can see how someone could be suspicious with a matchmaking system no one publicly knows the inner workings of. I agree I would like a SBMM that involves something that you can openly see. Some kind of rank that is right on your screen and you can tell what kind of players you will be facing by looking at it. That would be better.
