Can you fix the pseduo-rng in this game? It's absolutely ridiculous.

I have done exactly 31 forges in the past 3 days. 20-25 of them were with the polymor buff which guarantees an armor piece. From all of those runs i haven't gotten a single black armory chest piece. Mathematically there is a 0.377% chance not to get one from 25 runs. Now i know how pseudo-rng works in games. But this is just -blam!-ing stupid. I'm not sure where i'm going with this thread, but it's become so unenjoyable for me to play the game. I can't progress getting my most wanted exotic in the game because of this. Don't you think this is a bit ridiculous?

Yep. This. I farmed 9 months to get jotunn. RNG... Now.. they giving jotunn and le monarque away with a pretty easy quest. I’ve had thousands of drops and 100 exotics since shadowkeep launched... no Monte Carlo, only same warlock helmets and gauntlets dupes of things I’ve had since year one. My friends, new light players less than 100 hours in game have monte Carlo? Absolutely. Me? it’s the only exotic I don’t have and I’ve spent at least 500 hours in nightfalls and crucible and strikes raids etc since shadowkeep.. no Monte Carlo just dupe Helmets and gauntlets and (merciless and crimson) that I’ve had since year one on all 3 characters (both master worked for year btw). RnG in this game seems like players that play this game a lot get punished with horrible luck, bad armor rolls and never the one thing you need when you’ve needed it and farmed for it for hours and hours. I love this game being a daily player since early D1, but the rng has always been horrible.

  • This game desperately needs bad luck protection. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

It’s something you have to accept about the game or you’ll always be dissatisfied. The game isn’t a hobby it’s a full time job with mandatory overtime that pays you in lottery tickets.

    • Destiny is not a FPS game. It is a RNG game. Everywhere and everything is RNG based.

Pretty sure RNG is weighted against us. There may be a minuscule percentage chance that we get certain items, but I suspect that after you don’t get an item, ANOTHER percentage kicks in that increases your chances of NOT getting that thing every time you run that activity. This is what makes me believe that if you just stop playing certain activities for a while after running them a lot, it resets your chance of getting an item, which is why it’s weirdly better to STOP playing rather than grind the shit out of something. Try it out.

      • My last 6 pinnacles has been all the same (chest armour). 4 master NF, zero shards and zero exotics. Speaking of exotics.. during shadowkeep, I’ve got lot of same exotics when they drop. I’m fine with grind to a certain point.. armour affinity and masterworking it is probably my limit for this games RNG. I hope Bungie monitors and address’ it quickly.

      • I ended up giving up on the forges and the armour sets. 22 runs completed in a row at one point chasing a bond that never dropped, with 80% of drops being arms and legs. I keep seeing raiders who get nothing but energy weapons encounter after encounter and nothing but the same armour piece over and over. Duplicate protection has always been a lie that Bungie would bring up every now and then until recently when the CMs outright stated it's not a thing. It needs to be real and implemented as a priority.

        • Welcome to Destiny bud... The game with very little Good loot and ridiculously low RNG. Makes for a frustrating not fun game.

Things like this is why what makes me believe the game would be far more enjoyable if you could actually roll the thing you wanted vs even getting it. This is why the Menagerie was so loved. Of course this means less playtime, but gee, Bungie don't want satisfied people to keep coming back do they?

          • Slayerage (The Legend Himself on yt) made a video a few months ago about reckoning and the spare rations grind where he quoted essentially the Luke Smith of Diablo 3 saying something along the lines of, and mind my paraphrasing, When RNG is harsh and the weapons people want are rare then people get burnt out playing your game and most are unhappy. But if you give everyone what they want then your playerbase is satisfied and they come back for fun and for new content And that has stuck with me ever since as a point that Bungie is really missing. RNG is fine but the totally brutal RNG associates with some things in this game downright sucks. It took me a year of doing the dreaming city every single week to get the curated twilight oath and by the time I had it I wasn’t even happy or excited, I was only relieved that I would never feel the desire to load into the destination again. That is a problem. RNG with things like forges, menagerie, and moon weapons are really good. You choose ahead of what weapon you want and have a strict set of tasks to complete which guarantees you the one thing that you want and nothing else. The grind for a good roll is present, of course, which is good. But you are at least guaranteeing yourself a drop of the weapon every 10-15 minutes instead of first having to get the gun in the first place (spare rations, mindbenders, twilight oath, supremacy, retold tale, etc) which is a HUGE difference.

And then on top of this BS system, the perks on guns are definitely weighted. Ever farm for a Spare Rations? I swear. Snapshot is on almost every single one. And when it isn't, you get hip fire grip.

If you are using the polymer during the forge (going to inventory, holding square or other use function) you are guaranteed an armour piece but you do have to ignite the forge and be completing a weapon bounty at the same time. Can’t remember if it has to be legendary or not. If you’re not completing a weapon frame then it won’t count. If that’s still not working I’d report it as a bug. For what it’s worth just completing the weekly bounty and defeating the forge warden (On Nessus particularly) drops armour too.

                • A full day on the moon today, I need an overlord in anchor of light. 35 public events followed by doing the vex invasion, in various permutations of killing them in diff ways, even fast travelling back and catching extra invasions, NO gatelords spawned. Google search, Reddit not seeing gatelords either. Is it bugged? Who knows, probably. I refuse to do the rest of the seal until I get this, bcoz I could be totally wasting my time, gonna give 1 day, 2 tops, none spawn I'm done trying. Before this month, they spawned almost nonstop, so either bugged or ninja nerfed. Thing is, who knows with these inept morons. They might find a bug in 2 months, or it may be intended to stretch out playtime, but it's 100% changed. Another thing I noticed, the 4 vex weapons dropped like candy for 6 weeks, from vex invasion. Now you get pluperfect or the MG, and armour. No sign of the guns. Feels like they know numbers are dropping and people still playing are chasing undying, so they've nerfed drop rates of things needed for the title to keep people playing. I'm legit on the verge of walking away for good.

Pretty sure it's a 100% chance for the version of you in this universe we live in that you wouldn't get one from 25 runs.

                  • The first forge you do each week has a higher chance to give you a piece you don’t have yet. I remember unlocking a new piece each week when it first came out. Just wait till next week and try

Random doesn’t mean all possible solutions. There is no “static” probability. No one has 1% chance to loot the 1000k voice. These numbers were dropped by kids who didn’t even finish kindergarten. Random usually means that all possible result must follow a bell shape curve. Bungie’s Number Generator is not random. It was developed by valedictorian of gambling rng. It adjusts to each player’s profile. In practice, Bungie’s number generator analyzes a player’s daily/weekly/monthly time played, activity distribution, frequency... and tends to normally distribute missing loots over a projected time period that is a function of that gamer profile to the product life cycle end date, which is a limit, so by definition has the mathematical possibility of being infinite. In other words, ceteris paribus, the more you play an activity/character or the like, the less likely you are to receive the loots you miss from that activity with that character. You are smarter than a code.
