Was there ever a real algorithm/mechanism matchmaking players on Destiny (am including the first game too) or is it just an auto-filling LFG-esque tool?
In which part of the game such façade screws up with you? PvP, PvE or PvPvE-wise? In my case it's the PvP one, particularly related to Crucible as I'm a noob and I suck at it (at least I know and admit that lol) and have always been matched with much better players. Then, in short, I'm the type who can make my team fail, must give cancer to my mates and, believe me, it's not on purpose. No wonder I do much better on Gambit, since I can focus more on things I know better like killing mobs, fetching motes and banking them. No wonder either I skip as much as I can crucible related quests/dailies.
PS. Btw I've been reading guides, opinions and stuff so that I can improve my Crucible "experience". I'm not just sitting lazy down there waiting for a miracle to happen.
In which part of the game such façade screws up with you? PvP, PvE or PvPvE-wise?
Crucible has been a mess since a little before Forsaken, matchmaking is all over the place, every game is a blowout with three or four guys running 2.5KD+ and everyone else on 1.0 and down. It's a write-off imho and I don't see that there's much point putting too much effort into it, there's not much you can really learn getting blown out by a 6 stack of 2500 ELO sweaties ... unless that's your idea of fun. The annoying thing is that matchmaking in year 1 D2 and the later end of D1 in my experience worked pretty well, games were generally pretty balanced - I guess part of the change in D2 was that they couldn't get it to work moving from 4v4 to 6v6 and the other part was streamers and nolifers crying because they want to farm weaker players to run up #sick #streaks and 35KD+ or whatever for their streams. PvP is the worst, but I can't see why everything doesn't have matchmaking in this game for those who want to use it, it's kinda ridiculous to have to go LFG a no-mics team for a nightfall say, what's really the point?

Matchmaking (or lack thereof) is absolute shit. For me, maybe 1 in 20 matches seem balanced, but's that's probably by accident. Else it's just completely random. Stacks/skill level of players aren't distributed evenly amongst the two fireteam in the slightest, often resulting in a no-fun massacre.

Call me crazy, but I think now that Activision is out of the picture, we'll get an updated matchmaking system in D3 (maybe Shadowkeep but I'm not holding my breath).

Regular/casual/non hardcore players have been screaming for sbmm ( or something better) to be put back with absolutely no response from Bungie...zip... Even though they lost a huge chunk of players when it was removed. Considering they want us to spend money on the next DLC/AP , you'd think they would respond.

People (streamers) wanted sbmm removed if I’m not mistaken. People want to pub stomp so we have this connection based system. That and the player base is smaller in pvp which is why you see such sweaty teams.

In my opinion, the one true matchmaking disaster is reckoning! That is one hot mess!
