What do you guys think of Breakneck?

I've been grinding forever and I'm down to 7 more games and i want to know, is Breakneck really worth the grind?

  • It rocks. As a solo player it's only kinetic I use in pve-killclip bygones for pvp (and yes I do have virtually all the other kinetic weapons including exotics to compare it to) With rampage spec mod ,war rig and a couple of auto rifle perks on other armour pieces it melts everything. Bosses and tougher enemies are what energy and power slots are for.

  • If you like auto rifles in pve, it’s worth the grind.

It's pretty cool. I hate that bouncy recoil pattern though.

    • I love it for pve. With the rampage spec mod it melts.

    • It depends. Mostly on whether you like 450 RPM rifles or not. If you have Suros Regime, you may not really need it. Behaviour-wise, for me it resembles "blue" Cuboid ARu rifle I spent vast majority of game with and enjoyed a lot. While 600 RPM is more familiar, behaviour and impact of 600 RPM in game is... strange (sadly I got Scathelocke only recently and it lacks most of perks "modern" guns have). Feature-wise, it's quite controllable (at slow RPM), easy to shift/follow fire, has decent range and punch for AR. As it spins up, however, control and spread reduce usefulness at long range (for this gun). Besides, it chugs through ammo reserves faster than starving soldier through his rations. It was first (and still is only) gun I depleted ammo for in general roaming. So don't fire at mid-to-far targets if you have onslaught bonus on. But at short range this spin-up may help you to shred through mobs with ease. In Gambit, though, it may somewhat strangely underperform. After I got Hazard of the Cast (basically same gun, only without "holo-sight" that highlights targets and without "spin-up" feature) I left Breakneck. Still have it, sometimes use it at short range, but that's it. For me HotC is better due to predictability and, despite only slightly higher ammo reserves (like 3 rounds or so), more control at mid-to-far ranges, what allows me to use it as go-to-anywhere gun. Impact-wise they are identical and I mean it, they do inflict exactly same damage. Yet you can reacquire Breakneck from Collection tab and have several copies with different mods for Gambit or free roaming, say three for various enemies - minor, major, bosses. Tried that, quite fun:). tl;dr Good gun (for me), but I'd like a) option to remove that belt wrapped around handguard and b) switch-able spin-up. If you have something in second slot for long range - this may not be a concern for you as for short-to-mid range this gun is more than decent. P.S. I got my first Hazard of the Cast only after roughly 5000 kills made with Breakneck. Speaking about grind and/or luck. :)

      • For trash mobs yes 100%. For yellow bars it's bad. But that's by design

        • If you're able to get the stacks of Rampage going, it's a freaking beast at clearing adds. Without the Onslaught/Rampage going, it may as well just be a Hazard of the Cast. That being said, it's my go-to kinetic auto rifle. When I first got it, I put a Minor Spec mod in it. But it would probably do really good with a Rampage Spec or, believe it or not, a Counterbalance Stock. I've been running mine with a Counterbalance Stock (I'm on Xbox), and it's made a world of difference with being able to stay on target when the fire rate gets going.

        • You ever see the movie Waiting? Mitch's comment on Monte at the end perfectly describes Breakneck in a current world where autos are terrible. Breakneck is the best of the autos. That's like...being the smartest kid with Down Syndrome!

        • Maybe it's because I'm usually playing solo but that gun has been a godsend in many situations. It's definitely worth grinding. The fusion rifle from zavala though sucks

        • I loved it when I first got it, it's a very viable AR. I managed to get The Ringing Nail from the forge with dragonfly and rampage and it's in the energy slot and it just seems to perform better.

        • It was worth it, for pve, for me. I run it with rampage, titan barricade, and the auto rifle exotic chest piece. I love the grind towards a goal, getting sick of this rng shit.

          • I love it, but I wish it was better against orange-bars. I'd definitely pick it over any other AR.

It’s good. I have a rampage spec mod on it as well. It’s good against mobs but not as good as trust with dragonfly, rampage and dragonfly spec mod. Not as good as tiger spite with kill clip and outlaw as far as autos goes. My go to kinetics are tiger spite, chattering bone and service revolver from last year

          • Yes, it’s totally worth the grind - if you like auto rifles. I have one caveat: IMO, It’s awesome everywhere except Gambit, where it’s just okay. Once you get it, either add Backup Mag or Rampage spec. I’ve used both and although they do different things they both let you keep the fun rolling about the same.

          • Its unarguably a top tier primary, but wether one enjoys using it or not is all subjective. Personaly, i think its awesome for wave based activities like forge, gambit, blind well. In a raid setting, i would still stick to a HC or a pulse.

          • I use it just for fun. It’s certainly not a game winning gun. Better with a rampage mod from Ada too.

          • This is my main pve gun. Especially for forges and gambit. So, I’d suggest it.

Not as spectacular as some make it out to be, but worth the grind. Just be prepared to run out of primary pretty fast.

          • It also needs a buff so that it does the amount of damage a regular 250rpm auto does when it gets rampage stacks, even if the fire rate speeds up. Currently when rampage is stacked, it does the amount of damage an autorifle of the new fire rate would do, at the specific stacks of rampage.
