Cross Saves

Hello, I am not an avid forums browser so I do not know how often this topic gets touched on; nevertheless, I would like to rekindle the cross save discussion once again: giving players the ability to progress their characters on any platform of their choice (PS4, Xbox One, and PC). For context, I am a Destiny 1 player and have stuck with the game through its highs and lows logging 1968 hours with the franchise on Xbox (1393 hours in Destiny 1: 575 hours in Destiny 2). Moving on to Destiny 2, specifically Forsaken, I have not had as much time to progress my characters as I have for past DLCs. Forsaken has so much great content (achieving max power, titles, exotic hunts, triumphs, etc.) that will take ample amounts of time to complete which is fantastic; I am very happy with all of the changes made with this past expansion. My highest character to date is a 528 Titan- the same titan I have played with for four years now. I play on console primarily with my brother and three of my really close friends which is a pretty below average pool to play with for this style of game but I enjoy the moments we have shared over the past few years. With the base game being launched for free on the PC, seven or eight of my other friends decided to pick up the game to try it out. My brother and my friends who play on Xbox do not have a PC and vice versa for my PC friends. With many great games launching this fall and winter season, my friends on console have not entirely been dedicated to playing through Destiny 2 Forsaken; so, I picked up the base game myself on PC as well as purchased the Forsaken DLC so I still had a group of friends to play Destiny with. Naturally, starting a new character on the PC was disappointing for a Destiny 1 veteran: no Destiny 1 emblems you earned through Triumphs and grimoire score, you have to customize and create new characters, and the NPCs in the game treat you as a new player- which are all not too bad. It is at the point now, a year into Destiny 2, where I feel like a Destiny 2 veteran having no respect to the game time I have put into Destiny 2 on console. Destiny is a collectors game, a cosmetic game, a gear game, a history game- I am having to spend time on PC reacquiring everything I already have on a character I have grown up with on Xbox instead of delving into the new Destiny 2 Forsaken content and showing off all of my neat items to my friends on PC. On console, I have acquired 1336 of the 1884 items- some of which are impossible to acquire now. On PC, I have a staggering 451. In just a few weeks of playing on PC, my friends have been in awe of all of the unique pieces of gear and cosmetic items they see on other guardians in the tower and in the collection pages and I am left saying time and time again "Oh! The *insert item here*. I have that on my console characters. It's amazing!". It feels I bear the same significance as all of the PC noobs trying out the game for the first time this month when I am a four year veteran of the franchise. I could go on and require these items but I feel it would be a bigger draw for my friends to see me using unique weapons or equipping flashy armor sets and showing them how to get them themselves. My friends would be more determined to go out and earn unique gear seeing what perusing end game content and putting in hours will reward you with. And of course, I would want to boast and wave all of my cool items in their faces because I am a human and there is nothing better than having a badass looking guardian. Obviously, a problem like this could be avoided if I just stuck to progressing my character on console; but to me, Destiny is more about the people than it is about the content. I will follow wherever I can enjoy playing a game with my buds. I am uncertain of how many guardians out there share this same desire but it's something I care strongly about (enough to write this post anyway). I am not educated in business or computer science: I do not know what would have to transpire for a change like this to happen. I am merely a high school student. From a semi-hardcore gamer's perspective, however, it seems if cross saves existed, I can only perceive positive outcomes: hardcore players and content creators that are strictly PC could branch to PS4 to collect exclusives, players like myself can progress characters to achieve some of the end game gear, titles, gear, etc. without having to backtrack through content, and others would not be hesitant to purchase another copy of the game on another platform to play with more friends who are thinking about getting into destiny or who already have the game but do not have friends to play with. Please, please, please consider making this change...if not for Destiny 2, then perhaps consider for the future of the franchise. I appreciate your time, GKundy

  • I agree completely. I would love to switch over and play on PC but with the grind as terrible as it already is I don't have enough time or desire to grind this twice on two different platforms. My ideal solution would be to allow us to have cross save and cross play. If they are worried about having an advantage in crucible I would be fine with just having cross play with Xbox for PVE content only. I would just love to be able to use my gaming PC to play with my friends but have too much invested on Xbox to make the switch and leave my friends behind.

  • I agree! Plus my Xbox is pretty much corrupt right now and I want to play without restarting the ENTIRE GAME AND GRIND...

  • Follow up: If character cross saves are too far of a reach for Destiny 2, consider cross saves for collections and triumphs (including titles and badges) and make them account based. This would also solve many of the issues I stated above in my initial post and get around the "what would happen to my PC characters and gear if character cross saves existed" issue. You would have two sets of three characters on either platform earning items towards your collections or earning triumphs.
