Hunter Dodge doesn't feel useful

The Hunter's dodge ability doesn't feel very useful. The Titan's shield is super useful, it gives cover, and one of them basically eliminates the need to reload. The Warlock's circle is super useful. one of them heals and the other gives you a damage increase. The Hunter's Dodge does what? One of them recharges your Melee ability, which is... ok, I guess? none of the Melee abilities feel super useful, and powerful enemies seem to ignore the effects of Debilitating blow. The other recharges your currently equipped weapon, which is pretty good for slow reloading weapons, but the Titan's chest-high wall eliminates the need to reload entirely while you're behind it. The dodges doesn't give you i-frames, meaning that you can still get shot and killed while dodging. I remember something giving you 'increased defense' while dodging, but I can't remember what it was. That still kinda sucks. You get increased dodge for about a second while you jump. great. Am I the only person who feels this way?

  • All the dodge needs for it to be good is for it to cover more distance and to have a shorter animation.

  • I agree it's not the best ability, but I think I deserves more credit. Especially with the new melle abilities from blade barrage and the deflecting arctsrtider, both are in sainly fun, and dodging with the triple knife throw is insane killing enemies with them reduce your melee and dodge ability by quite a bit especially with the exotic chest that's gives you two knife throws. Plus the new arc super evertrine you kill electrified enemies you get grenade, melee, and class ability energy, which is pretty damn good and probably even better with the sixth coyote chest exotic tht gives you two dodges, but haven't gotten tht and don't expect to for a little while sadly but I hope I made you see the dodge is significantly better with the new supers.

    • You think the Dodge is your ally? You merely adopted the dodge. I was born using Dodge, with Young Ahamakara's Spine and Way of the Outlaw. I didn't use Way of a Thousand Cuts until Forsaken, by then it was nothing to me but repetitive! But seriously dodge only needs quicker animation, and maybe slight increase in distance. It's meant to be a mobile selfish ability and should be used as such. Just my two cents.

      • Your not using it right. If your standing in the open and about to die and dodge you deserve to die.

        • It is, but I think they should have kept it like shadestep in Destiny 1, with more distance and the roll animation making you harder to hit.

        • I honestly do not like the dodge at all. Compared to the barricade or the ward, the dodge has a singular purpose and it's not even all that great. The dodge rolls you in a direction about a few meters and also either fully charged your melee or reloads your gun. It won't do much considering you can still get merkd while doing it. The other two abilities work well with a team while ours only works well for ourselves. In pvp, the titan can put a wall up to deter enemies from a certain angle like in control. They can effectively reduce long range attacks by literally building a wall. You can jump over it but you're not typically using it in close range. They can also make a shorter one that eliminates the need to reload. The ward straight up heals you or gives a damage buff. Park right behind a corner, down a hall, on a hard point, or any location to rally the team and hold back a force. We can roll backwards. And then still get killed because you'd only need to use it to get out of danger or low health so they still just kill you because it's not instant.

        • Use Marksman dodge with slow reloading guns, it's probably the best class ability in the game paired with ace of spades or a kill clip duke

          • Depending on the class dodging makes you insanely hard to hit. It could make you invisible, you could get your melee ability, or you reload your weapons. Dodging is meant to give you small buffs during combat.

            • I do somewhat agree with this -- being a hunter-main. The roll is useful, yes, but you only get one. The melee recharge ability is a joke -- if you're not within like 5 feet of the enemy it doesn't work. Lol Sure you roll into cover, but then what? You only get healed by a roll when you have wormhusk on -- which is very annoying to combat -- I never used it though as the Gemini's were my favorite. But if you don't roll into cover where teammates are, is it really that good? And even if they roll into teammates, how is that any different than any other class running back to their teammates? Chances are that hunter is not going to come back out and start fighting immediately, so both of you can heal -- plus the opposed guardian can easily disengage as well and get into cover after a hunter uses their roll. The roll takes up a class ability slot, and it's literally just a roll. It doesn't heal you, or protect you. In d1 it was a nightstalker exclusive and could be used much more often than every 15 seconds, at the very least. This version is quite watered-down. It is less useful than the warlock's or titan's class ability, which actually benefits other teammates, whether it be healing or shielding, it's better than just a roll . Not to mention that titan's can skate away and outrun any super (maybe not the new void warlock one but you get my point) doing so, and warlocks can either blink away or do their own air-dodge that can be used more frequently than a hunter's roll. So, how is a hunter's roll OP? That is quite humorous. Maybe if they could roll 3 times in quick succession? Or actually be really hard to hit whilst rolling? I have killed many whilst they roll, I don't see how people in here think its OP. Lmao

              • The best mobility action in the game but isn’t useful, hmm I’ve lost count of the times a hunter has saved themselves through jump, dodge, jump - or just plain dodge. Yes it won’t always work but more times than most it saves their skin while they scuttle away to hug a team mate. And the regen is fast so can be used much more often than others (with the exception of benevolence Warlock - but that’s reliant on team using your heals/buffs) Titan barricade easily countered with a grenade over and behind (arc/fire bolt) or just jump over/run away, Warlock rift animation usually gets you killed as even doing behind cover gives enemy chance to close and then melee/shoot before any significant healing - empowering only works if playing inexperienced people that know better than engaging a Warlock sat inside a rift which is down before they are hurt.
