SPOILERS - The Possibility that The Nine are Everything We've Thought

<Let me just start by saying I was GOING to make a post on my thoughts about Medusa, Quria, Dul Incaru, and Eris... but the thoughts hurt my mind and so I decided this would give me less damage. The Nine. What do we KNOW about them so far? - They're main points of interest are in the outer system (Jovian system+) - Their signals extend beyond the galaxy, specifically in the direction of the Corona-Borealis Supercluster - They are many - The true Nine haven't been seen (or have they?) - They have an aversion to Light, some regretfully (a couple of the 9 Ghosts) others thankfully. - They consider the loss of Light a gift - They are some shady mother -blam!-ers - They have spies, emissaries, and agents all over the system including Orin (TotN Emissary) and Xur (Jovian merchant) - They have ties to the Awoken in that their Jovian agents are "more heavily transformed" - Xur says that the Jovians had a choice while the Awoken didn't Now let's (re)review the old Nine grimoire card:
The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival. The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms. The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan. The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster. The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube. The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause. The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within. The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning. The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
Now, at first, this whole thing seems like wild speculation... then things changed. When the first Trials of the Nine lore tabs went out, many people thought the Nine were the 9 Ghosts that talked to Orin. The Nine are not exactly that, as many discovered. However, a few other things in Forsaken came out and they give us something else. Perhaps the 9 Ghosts are the Nine, but so are the 9 missing crew members of the Amrita project. The Amrita project was similar to the Exodus project but had more people? Either way, all 40900 people in total. Only 40891 were documented Awoken. The other 9 were missing, and since they fell under the same conditions that Mara Sov and the others did, it's easy to assume they were also Awoken, but did not join the others. Also the number 9 really seems suspicious. BUT, one of the Nine theories said that they were Firstborn Awoken. The Amrita crew WERE the Firstborn Awoken. Those missing 9 ARE Firstborn Awoken. They are the Nine. Those 9 Ghosts who never found their Guardians (and lost their spark)? They are also part of the Nine. I think the Nine are everything on that list. I think the Nine are not entities by themselves, but a faction of beings. They speak a language of pure meaning. Their signals and their power arrived from the direction of the Corona-Borealis Supercluster. They are shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape. They are 9 Firstborn Awoken. They are 9 Ghosts who came to the Deep black. They are 9 leviathan intelligences. They are 9 Deep Orbit (sub)Minds who survived the Collapse. They are survivors of a Cis-Jovian colony who made a pact with an alien force to survive (the Deep?). Most importantly, they are Aspects of Darkness working to destroy us from within. Perhaps, by fighting back, the Traveler gave itself more enemies than before. Perhaps the text and the voices documented in the TotN lore tabs are their leaders, a council of sorts. While the Nine as a name is a faction of similar-minded individuals. Does it make sense?>

  • Interesting thing: you listed nine aspects/versions of the nine. So are the nine nine factions and not nine individuals?

The transmission you hear while near a radio on Nessus. The voice says "I am the door, I open into the void, one day my masters will step through, and then you will know..." The voice is the Emissary of the nine.. Lots of grimoir points towards the void. The place between our dimension and the dimension of the darkness. The void is where everything that dies goes. And everything that lives comes from. So it's possible the Nine are the spirits of dead gods, whose bodies were slain and now endure as wisps of what they once were. Probably the ancient Nasterath. There is a also The Fourth Tomb of Nezarec" in the Giovian space. Which Nezarac was one of the same as the nine that turned to the darkness.

      • The Nine are the Illuminati Spiritual Overlords that enabled Bungie to make game. Aka: Fallen Angels.
This is where the Fallen/Forsaken concept comes into play. You know, the battle in Heaven Revelation.
Or 9 People at bungie who came up with the concept of Destiny before actually making it and this is their persona of who they would be in a fictional setting. I'm right. And I know the truth of this reality we live in . . . 😎

      • The copied text about the nine, there are 9 lines. Probably each referring to an individual member.

In the Spire of Stars armor lore tabs, Calus reveals that the Cabal have vast texts on something called the "Ennead"(which means set of 9), and characterizes them as "trapped and reaching out". Perhaps they reside in unknown space, but can't actually leave it. Also, there's the lore tabs for the Trials weapons, in which there is a theory that every different font used is a different member of the Nine.

          • I mean Calus knows what the Nine are, yet he makes no reference to the Awoken in his ramblings. "Now I've seen everything. We were all so wrong. All of this—the machines, the Eliksni, the worms, the Light, the Nine. All of it meaningless. This galaxy is tumbling toward a singular conclusion and there is nothing—no one—that can stop it. How could I have missed this? It's the small moments, the simple pleasures that matter. They're all I can think about now. Food and drink aren't mere sustenance. They're a reminder that I am alive. This Leviathan. This prison ship. I will remake it, as I have been remade. No longer will it represent a mythical beast from the dreams of worms. It will serve as an icon for my newfound gluttony."

          • Could the creature seen swimming in the ocean of Titan actually be one of the Nine? What if they are related to the wish dragons and the hive Worm gods but a third separate but equally powerful creature? Are they a balancing force?

            • "I cannot explain what the Nine are. They are... very large. I cannot explain. The fault is mine, not yours." This means they are either ancient Leviathan from the system where fundament was or last remaining Ahamkara in my opinion.

              • Yeah I thought about this. You’ve worded it much better than I could have. However, the nine predate the arrival of the traveller in the Sol system, as shown in the “I Am Alive” Lore tab. This doesn’t directly disagree with this idea but it certainly throws a spanner in the works. My theory is that the true Nine are either the mysterious transmission, viral language, aspects of darkness or the shadows of a transcendent shape, which then infect or inhabit any groups of nine powerful individuals, such as the ghosts, sub minds, leviathan intelligences, firstborn awoken or cis-jovian survivors.

                • So, nine groups of nine then. It’s weird that Bungie might just have slapped their Identity in our faces a long time ago. If we notice more of these groups of nine matching with the grimoire, then this will be confirmed.
