I don’t think Sentinel is a bad subclass,
(in fact I really enjoy using top tree with Synthoceps or ACD/Feedback Fence) but the issue is in the super.
The super suffers from some serious hit registrations issues. This problem plagued Bladedancer in D1, and its affecting Sentinel too. I even saw a couple instances of this on Spectral Blades too. It may be possible that this is something Bungie is struggling to fix, but they need to prioritize finding a solution to this problem.
Sentinel could also use is a small speed increase for the attack animations. The swings feel so very slow.
TL;DR
-Fix hit registration
-Slightly speed up attack swings

I often wonder how much better the game would be if it wasn't always online. It's really depressing this is becoming the norm and being disguised as a "live game" instead.

I think a certain level of hit detection issues are intentional on Bungie’s part to make it easier for less experienced players to deal with melee supers as well as it is partially due to connection issues ever persistent in this p2p matchmaking. Arcstaff is infinitely more consistent than sentinel but even still it often doesn’t register. I really hope sentinel specifically does receive some love for its R1 though and maybe a bit more consistent damage on shield throws.

unlimited shield throws.

Too many times I will make contact with a target (sound effect and all) and they will walk away without a scratch.

Yea code of the defender or whatever it’s called is already one of the best in the game, a simple fix in hit registration would make me wanna play sentinel all the time -

All it needs is hit detection, other than that it is in the top tier of PvP subclasses and pretty damn good in pve as well. -
Isnt the sentinel super supposed to BE the help? Your entire job description is...DEFEND AND HELP YOUR ALLIES.

The sentinel super is already getting a buff that makes all the sentinel shield throws one shots, hit detection is an alright buff for maybe the initial throw, but it'd be a little bit too insane if the shields flew faster the rebounds shouldn't be too accurate. Especially with exotics like doomfang that could make the super last way longer than intended.

Sentinel is also my favorite subclass overall. I do understand why it is not as fast as say arcstrider and I doubt it will ever be as fast. Which honestly makes sense I do think however it should get both a hit registration increase I also think blocking shouldn’t drain super (I know why it does: orb generation and over 90% damage reduction while doing so, I’d rather forgo the orb generation for the shield not draining super) beyond that it’s a fairly top tier subclass that is too often underestimated and uses incorrectly causing people to say its “weak” or “broken”

Also, they shouldn’t be able to suppress themselves. ;) https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/247937383/0/0

My trick with the hit registration js when I pop my super and before I reach them I jump and immediately melee. That just seems to work for me all the time in my personal experience

Sometimes it even does that sound of when you hit someone, but in fact, the person get no damage at all.
