It was a remake of the original anime.

Apparently Robin improvised a lot of his lines in that movie. RIP

He was amazing. I wasn't really a fan of his until I saw him live when I was in college. Where I went to school gave him an award that is nationally recognized....so he came to campus to accept it in person. Then---as a gift to those of us who came to see him accept it---he treated us to TWO HOURS of improv. He just picked random people from the audience...and then just riffed on whatever topic they picked. To this day, it is still the most jaw-dropping display of raw talent that I've ever seen. I walked out of that auditorium a fan, and didn't stop until the day he left us.
