Glory Matchmaking with Fireteams - How Does It Work?

Very curious about how matchmaking works after the recent match I had in competitive. The last match I had put us up against a team of users with very drastic differences in glory rank compared to my team, yet I found only 1 similarity between the two teams. These are the glory ranks of each team...
My Team's Glory Points: Myself - 1,606 Fireteam teammate 1 - 662 Fireteam teammate 2 (was host of fireteam) - 1,135 Random teammate through matchmaking - 1,555 Other Team's Glory Points: Enemy 1 - 1,466 Enemy 2 - 5,401 Enemy 3 - 5,105 Enemy 4 - 5,166
If you read the spoiler, you can tell that there was only 1 person on the other team that had ANY similar glory rank to our team. So for fireteams, is the matchmaking based off of the average of each player on the fireteam? Is it based off of the fireteam leader's glory points? Because I don't think my team (or anyone that has 1000 glory points) should be getting put up against people who have over 5000 glory points if it's based off of glory points alone.

  • It doesn’t work. There’s no such thing as sbmm and cbmm in Destiny 2. You get matched based on your overall win percentage

  • I'm quite low rank but last night I went 14w 5l and I can 100% say there was no chance that happening solo queuing prior to it. Granted 2 of those wins you could consider lucky as we won them 3 v 4 but overall I think it's grouping the right tiers together. I know full well I'm better than rank 1 and 2 and I feel the matchmaking will allow me to progress to 3, potentially. Maybe I just had a real lucky evening playing, I'm only on 800 points though so I assume that had some bearing. Those loses I had I distinctly remember 2 of those teams being well above average in terms of play. I don't know how it all works really.

    • The changes on match making is disastrous. I worked my S off to get my points to 3k+. Now lost 11 matches in a row and back at 2888 points. I don’t want to play competitive anymore. I just play matches that my team gets crushed. It is no fun at all and I just keep losing points. I just stopped playing competitive thanks to Bungie’s new match making! They don’t take in account the amount of games played to get the points people have and also not the ka/d stats. So this match making is just rubbish.

      • Low player base. That's why.

      • There are 2 hamsters (only 1 on Saturdays) that play "Rock, scissors, paper" for turns to pick names out of a hat.
Your welcome.
• It's random. Even after the update this past Friday. I'm rank 1, with a 1.1 kd still going against rank 2-3 players with a 2+kd. Currently on a 4 loss streak beacuse matchmaking decides to put us against the same stacked team twice, and then another stacked team. At this rate I'll never get rank 3 before the next update. Competitive is just pure cancer.

      • Low player base means bad matches. Bungie made PvP and especially competitive so bad that no one wants to play it. Many left the game over it, and many like me just don’t have the will to try it out again.

      • Tbh none of what you just said matters when theres only 10 people playing. You'll get matched against whoever else is searching period.

      • Simply it doesn't work. They can't figure out how to make matches competitive - just lopsided messes. And it's not just competitve - it's like that in quickplay. I ran into quite a few stacked full fireteams with people obviously using a KB/M setup. If you have to sweat that much in QP something is wrong with you. lol

      • They take the highest glory score and then throw 7 much lower scores in and voila, a shit, totally 1 sided pub stomp.

      • Huh. Looks like there's an algorithm in place to matchmake a carry right into the team. As for the glory rank matchmaking, I've no clue. Mine is zero. Likely to stay that way.

      • Glory matchmaking works by matching 4 people with an avg. 800 ELO against 4 stack teams of avg. 1500 ELO. So you end up having a 20% chance of winning. How else are all those movie of the week's going to be made?

      • If you were in a fireteam and were using chat, it could have put you up against players in a fireteam as well. If you were not using chat, then it possibly put you against solo players. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong.

        • 2 questions: When did you play this match? The comp matchmaking was updated again on Friday to drastically increase the time it takes for the matchmaker to increase the points bracket it is searching within We're you playing at an off hour for the majority of your fireteam members time zones? Even if you were not only ~33,000 people are above 697 pts (this is how many pts I have, I looked on destiny tracker to find this) so I can only imagine how few people are at ~1200 pts

          • No one knows honestly, anything people say is not 100% true as we know nothing. And bungo doesn’t want to explain to us how it exactly works.
