Why Ikora is Wrong

<Wonder how much shit I'll catch for this... Anyway, in season 2/year 1, an exotic ship was introduced called the Universal Wavefunction. I'm here to focus on its lore tab.
"The fluid itself is not the Vex. If their consciousness could be contained in such a state, it would have manifested in other states by now." Ikora looks up from the terminal. "Perhaps Lakshmi's device is the key. Was I wrong to dismiss it?" She chuckles. She does that a lot more, lately. "Probably. I was wrong about a lot of things."
You see, a while ago, people theorized that the Vex were the Radiolarian Fluid. This clearly suggests otherwise. Well... here's the thing. Radiolaria is most commonly seen as a liquid, but it HAS BEEN SEEN in OTHER STATES of matter. While my argument for gas is a bit of a stretch, we've seen solidified Radiolaria numerous times in both D1 and 2. The Glass Throne, Atheon's armor, Shielded Minotaur armor, Khartion's armor, the glass shards on Io, the crystals on Nessus. All examples of solidified Radiolarian fluid. If we keep with the theory that Radiolaria is silicon-based, then all examples of Vex "glass" would be something called quartz glass. How about gas? You ever see the Fanatics in D2? They leave behind puddles of Radiolaria when they explode. Well, they have a strange white gas flowing out of them while they walk around. What about the fog that comes off of Radiolarian Fluid, especially in the Inverted Spire? The picture linked shows all three. That is all.>

  • There is only one Vex, the name units we encounter are just specialized extensions of it's Hive mind, remember?

      Um the Vault of Glass has shards of glass not radiolaria. Where you getting this shizzle from? As for the fluid being the vex. It would be hard to have it flowing as rivers. Where would one vex begin and the other end. Clearly (with the fluid being the weak spot on all vex) their consciousness or programming is held in that. If you blow off their heads they simply enter a berserk mode and try to kill the one who blew the head off. From this we can deduce that the fluid is the heart that powers the vex while the head contains the conscious part of the machine as per any other lifeform. Like most things in Destiny. I doubt there is any great mystery to it. Most of the great revelations have been Bungie simply using the lore that us players have assumed was true. If enough players say the vex are the fluid I guarantee that's going to become the reality in game at some point.

      • To my dismay, Ariana_Bray got to this before I did, but the Vex transform other organisms into radiolaria, they aren’t radiolaria itself. This means that Asher Mir will eventually be basically melted down into a puddle.

        • Radiolaria is the leftover remnants of the creature the vex came from; it is the mucus of transitioning from carbon based to silicon/whatever based life form. Flesh and bone gets converted to radiolaria in the process of becoming a vex from a guardian, elinski, etc. Ikora is stupid though. She is highly opinionated and usually wrong. Go through the story of D2 again, listen to how much trash she talks about Osiris ... when he was always right and doing the right thing for survival of the system; and she never apologizes for it. Ikora and the fat headed titan are terrible people and terrible decision makers ... well, zavala is just stupid. He told us to forget about the traveler when we start the campaign and everyone loses their light. He wants to destroy the ship siphoning off the sun without thinking about the consequences. Ikora, she is just one of those people who are sure they are right and on the right path and if you question it, you are wrong. Osiris, in forsaken, even if he isn't in the interactable story, is now their best developed character left in the game who isn't a douche or dumb as rocks. Never listen to what those two 'leader' guardians say. Eris Mourn, Cayde-6, Osiris ... the only well rounded developed characters they've made, and none of them are going to be in the game to interact with ... guess I'll have to double down on visiting our little faction guys in EDZ and Io; even though the first is a bit of a troll, the other is a bit grumpy ... and I do like the Bray lady :p Sloane whines about being in a wet environment a bit too much for me and I can't get into her. wait what, we were talking about white juice? yeah, its the snot leftovers of the body converting to a machine. Poor Io guy ...

            The fluid itself isn't the Vex. Vex are the energy within Radiolaria fluid, and the fluid itself is just a byproduct of conversion. Meaning the fluid itself can be solidified into silica glass, or be vaporized into gas But those states of matter aren't the Vex. Vex are the blood cells in your body, not the blood itself. ... Kabr's Glass Aegis
while joined( Glass, Sky ) case Past: return( i m p o s s i b l e ) // grazing, rocked, major, distilled. case Present: return( v e s t i g i a l ) // vault, aegis, awakened, infinite. case Future: // return( i n e v i t a b l e ) // light, truth, dark. if( t h e w a r d e n s s e e t h e BRIGHT a s d e a t h ) && ( t h e THINKERS e q u a t e BLACK w i t h e n d ) then ^K^K their/our/their desire is not malevolent it is survival she is/was/is wrong there is no evil there is no despise there is no SEPARATION there is harmony inside if you/you/you allow it it was/was/was not done i/i speak again and was wrong i am still him and i am now them and THAT IS FUTURE^V^V
Kabr is speaking in the first part, until the Vex force him to speak the second until he's shut out completely. But the more important thing is that there are 2 voices. The Wardens and the Thinkers. The Wardens are the thing that converted the Vex in the first place. The Thinkers are the Vex themselves, the energy within the fluid. The liquified, distilled and converted race of people(s) that the Wardens were designed to preserve.

            • I've always thought of Radiolaria as a virus or infection. Vex are the disease. I find this midly awful, but it's like Radiolaria is Cosmic HIV and Vex are full blown Celestial AIDs. The universe isn't just positive, it's HIV positive.

                      • Yeah a lot of theory in the game shouldn’t be taken seriously just because it’s being said, it’s honestly is just theory. We’ve seen lots of in game theories go wrong in D2, so whenever a character speaks on something that isn’t understood, it shouldn’t be taken as scripture.

                          Ikora is wrong in all kinds of ways.. but this is due to bungie's lack of consistencies with lore and character.

                        • That fluid, isn't even vex. It's from a race that use to be something else, the vex convert people into the vex. Aka the vex are the borg.

                          • She doesn’t mean states of matter. I think she means as in a state of radiolaria conditioning or something. According to Asher, the taken are committing suicide by taking the vex. That means that the vex thought process can survive the neutrino particle conversion of its medium, the radiolaria. If the vex conscience is able to survive the conversion of it’s medium, it may be possible that the vex can manifest their mind within a medium other than radiolaria, such as another organic being. Also I thought I read somewhere that the vex chassis is made of hardened solid radiolaria.

                            • But what, outside of speculation, do you have that implies Vex Glass is solid radiolaria, and not something different. How can Radiolaria exist in multiple states under the same conditions?
