Operation Off-topic Thunder

"Listen up! At approximately 06:37 this morning we received unconfirmed reports suggesting there have been attacks on civilians in Springfield, Georgia by what can only be described as reanimated corpses.", the General said looking around the room. "Are any of you surprised by this?", he asked. "No sir, this is what we've trained for" replied Alpha. "Very well, let's continue. As these reports are unconfirmed, I need the 12 of you to investigate and evaluate the severity of the threat. In the event a Zulu Oscar situation, I need you to contain the threat and establish an area of operations for follow on forces. You will be flown in by Chinook with vehicles in a sling load configuration. You will be inserted just outside of town at the Effingham county recreation park complex. Once on the ground you will convoy to main street and assess the situation. What are your questions?" "What are the rules of engagement concerning the welfare of civilians General?", Omega asked. "Help them when you can, but don't endanger yourself or anyone on your team. Containment is your first priority. Anyone else?" "How long before follow on forces arrive sir?", asked Sierra. "That depends on your assessment of the situation, but we will have crews on stand-by to assist should things get out of hand. Listen, we want to keep this quiet and contained if possible. We don't want civilians freaking out and sparking a panic across the country. If there are no more questions" he paused and looked around the room, "very well, wheels up in 30" In the next 30 minutes a unique team of 12 warfighters would board a CH-47 from 160th S.O.A.R. "Nightstalkers" at Hunter Army Airfield and embark on a journey to face an enemy the world hasn't known for thousands of years. These 12 soldiers who have worked closely together for the last 5 years like a well oiled machine. They can operate in any environment, in any weather, and without complaint. They are: Alpha, commanding officer Omega, executive officer/second in command Sierra, senior operations planner X-ray, team medic Romeo, weapons specialist Whiskey, Heavy weapons and vehicle repair Delta, communications Oscar, close quarters combat and tech support Mike, demolitions expert Papa, team sniper Charlie, infiltration specialist. Zulu, drone operator. ---------------------------------------------- Having kitted up, the team heads out from the hanger to the flight line. They are greeted at the helicopter by crew chief Johnson. "Hey guys! Great to see you again! Looks like we're headed over to Springfield. Shouldn't be any more than 15 minutes of flight time. And we've got a ground crew waiting to hook up the sling load." "Sounds good Sgt. Johnson. Let's get off the ground", replied Omega. The men settle into their jump seats as crew chief Johnson gives the go ahead to the pilot. Alpha looks to his men "like we talked about earlier, Charlie, Zulu, Mike, Delta, and Romeo, you'll go with Omega in vehicle two and scout the back side of Springfield on Ash street. The rest of you are with me. We will head down Laurel. Our main objective is the graveyard in the center of town. Omega, have your team scout the smaller grave yard once you turn on Ash street and then we will link up at the at the objective." As he spoke the helicopter began lifting off the ground. "Understood Boss", replied Omega. X-ray spoke up, "are we expecting complete chaos or something on a smaller scale?" "From the Intel we received so far, nothing indicates that we are walking into hell, so I'd imagine it's more of a limited engagement", Alpha responded. He continued, "once we land we will head down GA-21 and turn onto Laurel street. If local law enforcement has already responded, and I'm sure they have, we will talk to them and assess the situation further, but our goal is the graveyard." The Chinook moved over to the PZ where three soldiers were waiting to hook up the two humvees that were set up in a shotgun configuration. Crew chief Johnson was on the floor looking through the hell hole as the pilot maneuvered the aircraft over the two vehicles. Giving the pilot precise directions, the aircraft hovered over the humvees as the soldiers on the ground hooked the two slings to the cargo hooks of the Chinook. "We are hooked and ready sir", chief Johnson said into his mic. The aircraft immediately gained altitude and headed towards Springfield.
