Why are people so upset about Nokris and Xol?

Maybe I just don't get it, it's the story missions. When has any story mission boss been really challenging? Nokris is Crotas brother. Both are very powerful, but doesn't anyone remember how easy it was to prevent Crota entering our world in The Dark Below? It wasn't til we got into the raid that Crota was actually challenging. And Xol. I see everyone saying "How disappointing, he's a worm god, he should be stronger than oryx". NO, just flat out NO. If you've read the lore you know Oryx had to kill the worm god Akka to gain the power to "Take". Xol was considered the weaker of the worm gods. Therefore Oryx is stronger than Xol. And you can't compare "Raid Oryx" to "Story Xol", we have to compare apples to apples. Xol, as we've seen him so far I would say was a little weaker than what we saw from Oryx in the Story Mode of The Taken King. One last note, Nokris was stricken from the hive record for heresy against the sword logic and practicing resurrection, and Xol practiced the same. Who says we've seen the last of them? We still know anything about the Savathun expansion, who knows what we hear from them. EDIT Ok, I think we've established a few things that I should probably clarify. 1. I agree that the story was not told in the best way possible. We probably should've had a little context. However, from a story board standpoint the Hive struck all record of Nokris. So, how much is there to find out before hand until we see him? Is this a "Struck from the World's Grave" or an instance of so cleanly wiped, no one but a few Hive new he ever even lived. Xol, well, my only argument there is who knew where he was and how long had he been frozen down there. 2. Bungie reuses content. Why would it be so surprising to see these 2 again with the Savathun DLC? 3. Yes, they weren't done justice. They should have their own raid just like Crota and Oryx, but you can blame the whole Leviathan story line. Personally, not a fan. I would love to see them do a Xol/Nokris raid with both of them as final bosses. But it's not fair to compare these Story Mode Bosses to other Raid bosses. Compared to the Story Mode Oryx and Crota, I'd say these were on par for difficulty. 4. This DLC wasn't about Xol or Nokris. Anna and Rasputin were the main characters, Xol and Nokris were just some random bosses to fight. At the same time, they kind of work like that. Nokris was striken from record, Xol was basically MIA, and who knows how long they were frozen under there. Think about from a movie standpoint. You go help some girl with a thawing Warmind. Some frozen hive start attacking, and all of a sudden this mythical worm and a dude you've only ever seen a statue of come outta the ice. How much info could you have know before hand? The only other info you have is what Zavala and Anna tell you before hand. How much do they know?

  • I think Xol could have been a great raid boss.

  • The fights were anticlimactic. Xol should been a raid boss and not some easy enemy that can be put down with our double primaries. You don't even need the valkyrie javelins to kill this so called god.

          The problem with their story and most stories in Destiny is a lot of them (the stories) never really finish with the DLC storyline and thats just the problem with the semi-episodic nature of Destiny storytelling. Every story basically is broken up into fragments and only later on (and usually after $20-$40) will we learn more about whatever. Just look how broken and fragmented the Hive storyline really is... D1 sword of scrota / shrine of oryx / that vex simulated Xol final battle on Mars (we stopped the super dangerous threat! Yay) D1 TDB scrota is stopped (for realsies this time) D1 TTK oryx arrives / stopped (for realsies this time) + Savathun D2 Savathun is heavily referenced on Titan D2 W Savathun reference + Nokris and Xol (but as Oryx and scrota have shown, Nokris and Xol may be back) D2 TTQ Savathun + return of Nokris and maybe Xol Literally six “episodes” over 5 years and honestly each race has a similar timeline. This among other things is what Staten was trying to fight most likely. After a certain point we as the viewer can’t make sense of all these frayed ends waving around because of how disconnected everything has become. It’s Bungie’s signature “we are gonna do things similar to how they are normally done but with a fun new twist!” move and they fail every time trying to reinvent the wheel. If wheels needed reinvented someone much more capable would have done it long before Bungie got the idea. Dunnen-Krueger effect dialed up to 11.

        • Yeah, but you shouldn’t have to read the grimoire to know that, honestly. It should be in game. Ah well, a bigger topic for another time ;-;

          To paraphrase two of my favorite pop psycholoists: When you see someone who is getting irrationally angry about something, its usually because they are going on about a TOPIC that isn't the real ISSUE. Xol and Nokris aren't the real issue. Both Crota and Oryx were story mission boss fights, that only became raid bosses when we decided to challenge them both in their throne worlds. Also there is a clear narrative of our Guardians getting stronger over time (The Traveller is AWAKE NOW, people....) The real issue is three things. 1. You have a "lore community' that is a lot like the Star Wars community. They feel their emotional investment in the story gives them ownership over the story...and they're mad because Bungie isn't telling them the story they WANT. (Check out this weeks "Fireteam Chat" to see a perfect example of this. One of the hosts goes off on the campaign story...and when pressed by the other co-hosts, he's clearly got nothing other than "Bungie isn't telling me the story I want, so-story-bad". ) 2. You have segments of the community that are still bitter over the failed re-branding of Destiny 2....and how long its taking to repair the damage. So----like a disillusioned spouse---they're casting about looking for anything and everything to use as a vehicle to express their anger, frustration and disappointement. (When a wife loses her shit over her husband chewing his dinner too loudly...the problem really isn't how loud he's chewing.) 3. The game's fundamental, divisive nature. This game has attracted players from all across the spectrum of gaming....and we've all come here with our own ideas of what this game "should be"....and this ONE game can't be everything to everyone. There are going to be "winner" and "losers" in that struggle to determine the "destiny" of Destiny (sorry). ...and the losers, unfortumately (ala point 2...and like in other areas of life) don't go away quietly. They come back here, and make their anger and resentment known. And bitching about the boss fights is a convenient way to do that.

          • We didn't like how easy it was to kill Oryx or Crota either. They shouldn't have been simple DLC bosses. But they had RAIDS to kill them. Not only did we kill Crota's brother in a STORY mission, but we killed a Worm God in a story mission. A god that Hive gods like Oryx and Crota worship. If anyone diserves to be a raid boss, its a Worm God. Instead we got another Cabal raid we've been fighting this whole time. Its a major lost opportunity.

            • Maybe if the story was longer than an hour, they could’ve expanded on the literal hours of lore and content that you can get from a worm god and disowned hive god

            • I don’t have a problem with Nokris, he’s equivalent to Crota and Oryx in regards to their pre-throne world battles. If he comes back, and he should, it should be us battling him in the throne world and he needs to be much stronger. Xol was mostly a disappointment because of the huge lack of story with it. He should have been a much bigger deal, or at least made out to be more of a threat

            • I think it would have been cool if the arena was bigger. Then, Xol would every now and then come out from under you, making a hole and it would become a stage hazard. Xol could also shoot little negation fields and if you're in it, you can't use any light related abilities. Then if u did enough damage to stun Xol, you could climb onto Xol with a valkyrie and target weak spots. Then you'd have to get off based on your own judgement before he slings you off or something.

So going forward Bungie can just claim our Guardians didn't know anything about these monsters to avoid telling a story? Make up some stupid book or something our guardian found that explains it. It's not hard to create a reason for why we would have information on the main protagonist in a story.

            • You never know if they are completely dead. Like it is said they both practiced resurrection. But since they are also Hive Nokris may possibly have a throne world like Crota and Oyrx. So we may see them again either in a raid, or in the next expansion ressurected. Does anyone remember how many damn times omnigul was resurrected? The Dark Below, Taken King, and Rise of Iron.

              • the whole way they handled this dlc was done poorly. The fact that there is no explanation of why there is a worm god on mars, when they are supposed to be in the deep of the hive home gas world, and how it got there is straight up lazy story telling.

                  Ana says that Nokris was weak. Oryx abandoned him because of that. He was brilliant though. But Oryx prefers strength, because that is how the Hive work. So I'm not surprised that he wasn't on Crotas level.

                            • Not to mention raid oryx was that strong because he took himself in the end of the story. He brought himself back to his throne world and fought in that form. We killed him in HIS realm. He was just as easy as xol and nokris in the story mission. So i really dont get why people are so upset over something easily explained
