Eververse Engram Categories?

I doubt this would get that much attention, but how about this.. Instead of gathering XP to get an Illuminated Engram over and over again, we gather XP to get an Eververse token (much like how there's so many other tokens in the game). This token would be used to select an engram type, considering how there's 8 categories of items in one Illuminated Engram. When putting the math to it, there's over 150 different items in 1 engram; meaning the chances of getting what you'd actually want are pretty slim. Plus, not to mention that Ghosts, Ships, and Sparrows; aren't taken out of the drop pool by means of the "said" duplicate protection. The only 2 categories that actually are affected are Emotes and Ornaments. So by making 8 separate engrams, it allows you to choose the category you'd like to open (like armor, ghosts, ships, etc.). It would make getting what you actually wanted a lot simpler and easier then having to spend time and time again, getting the exact same ghosts/ships/sparrows that you've gotten before. Granting you more of what you want, and less of what you've gotten. Thanks for taking the time to hear me out! :)

  • I would consider that a positive change but wonder if it's just overcomplicated? Just give Tess a bigger selection to sell in the shop. Bright dust currency isn't very different to a token system, when you get right down to it, now that vendors simply sell their wares with tokens. Except for Cayde who doesn't go in for this token malarkey. He's all about that glimmer glimmer... Smart guy. #huntersmarterrace ;)

    • While your idea sounds fine you are missing one important point $$$. Doing what you suggest would make is easier to get what you want, but bungie don’t want to do that cause they are interested in making the chance lower to get you frustrated and ultimately buy it.

        • Here’s an idea. How about we pick what we want? Eververse is now illegal in Netherlands and Belgium. They just passed laws stating loot boxes are gambling. Pretty sure much of Europe will follow suit. Only matter of time before it happens here in the U.S.

          • So, return of the D1 POE tokens? D1 had a something like this at launch of HOW/POE and it was eventually removed. I would rather just accumulate dust or some currency and just buy selected items when available (deterministic for in game currency or real $)... No roll the dice RNG gambling hell hole wasting $/in game currency or time trying to get something... This is the nasty greedy thing that pissed everyone off with EV / loot boxes. Just remove the random gambling crap all together from vendors like EV... if you want something play the game, get the currency and buy it... Keep it simple and straight forward. Adding to much separation just makes it a mess and I think we have enough token, mod types of things already...

            • I do like choices. It would be nice to select Season 1 or Season 2 or Season 3 drops or Winter holiday stuff, etc. I doubt they would do that though. They like using a gambling system and they make a lot of money on the dill holes that will keep playing the slot machine until they get the item they are looking for.

              • Any suggestions that curb the effects of bad RNG are good in my eyes. Though I would rather Bungie change the reward system so that it accommodates choosing different reward packages on rank up rather than introducing more tokens. Destiny 1 handled it well in this regard.

                • I'd be all for this. It's more player-friendly and allows you to narrow down the RNG, bettering the odds of getting exactly what you want. For that very reason, Bungie will never do it. They want you so frustrated with not getting what you want that you instead opt to spend hundreds of dollars to buy engrams instead. That's the nature of loot boxes (and engrams are loot boxes, even if only cosmetic): it's always rigged against you. Still, you have a good idea. :)

                      • We had pretty much this same mechanic in D1 and for the same reasons. When you leveled your faction, you were offered a choice of Weapon, armor, or class item.

                        • A loot pool of 150 items per engram is ridiculous, maybe 30 or 40 but even then that's pushing it. Great idea but no duplication protection and a giant ass loot pool is a disaster waiting to happen.

                            • My God. So simple yet so effective. This would get me excited to just grind XP much like they did by separating weapons from armor for Factions in D1.

                                • That's a good Idea. But I would rather something like Kadala from Diablo 3, which is similar but better because it can also work for obtaining gear in general as well as cosmetics. For those who don't know, you would obtain blood shards from playing rifts and killing special enemies. Which you would spend at Kadala for obtaining gear. It was random but there was a chance of getting the best gear in the game. I think a similar system should be adapted to eververse, where you do like OP says, earn tokens to spend for a chance to get the cosmetics which has its own category engrams. But this can also be applied to gear (armor, guns) so we have a easier chance of getting that godroll if they decide to go back to random rolls. Finally, everything in eververse needs to be put into the drop table. Give us more of a reason to farm for gear on strikes, raids, and public events. P.S., to be able to reroll a single perk would be nice to ease up the grind (also like in D3).

                                  • Alot of reasonable ideas. Sadly bungie are greedy and want you to keep gambling on silver. The way eververse launches in season 3 will ultimately decide if I even bother to play the dlc I already own.

                                    • I had an Idea a while back, on every level up we get 100 Silver and a Bright Engram. So every few levels we can buy a engram incase we didn't get what we wanted.
