So, a lot of people want to see a new subclass in Destiny and not just play the three elements established at the start of Destiny one. Let me introduce the Cryo element.
The problem right now is that the current game is balanced around the three elements we have right now and throwing in another damage element can break the game and would be really hard to balance. In fact the the game as a whole would need to be changed around the element.
The solution I have to adding a fourth element is to make it utility based and have no energy damage, which means no extra damage to shields. Now bare with me, yes if you gave your energy weapon or power weapon a Cryo mod it would do less damage to shields, but whoever takes damage from those weapons would be slowed by a %.
Cryo summed up- Is not effected by any energy modifiers, and can be treated as kinetic damage excluding precision damage.
Slows or movement impair targets for a duration instead.
Can debuff targets that can’t be slow/movement impaired (bosses) in other ways (damage reduction).
This can open the door for a new subclass, and new strategy.
Being made this way, Cryo can be directly nerfed or buffed base on how good or bad it is. This can be introduced in Destiny two with little to no changes needed to the current game.
Slow- 0.5 sec ramp after taking Cryo damage, 1 sec decay( debuff will refresh upon taking Cryo damage). Ramp up 10%-50%, decay 50%-0%
Freeze- applies only to Cryo damage done by heavy weapon, grenade, and super. Targets that are frozen cannot move or preform actions. 1 sec ramp time 1.75 sec freeze 1 sec decay. Upon taking damage freeze status will Break. Ramp up 10%-100% (at 100% target is frozen), decay 100%-0%
Break- if target takes damage while frozen they will break and immediately go into the freeze decay phase. Break will do damage( damage amount undecided).
