Ideas for the Darkness and Its Fleet

<So, the Darkness is coming. With it (or as it) are a fleet of Tetrahedral ships. Assuming that the Traveler is a Light-god in a shell and the Darkness is its mirror, then one of those ships (at least) is the Darkness. Also, like any post I put my drawings in, I have to mention that I am not the best drawer. The picture above is a series of drawings based on two assumptions about the Darkness and 2 pieces of concept art. I will link them all now CA 1 - https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/project_modules/fs/da51bb58922683.5a0e1c7f3265a.jpg CA 2 - https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/001/257/788/large/dorje-bellbrook-db-destiny-194.jpg?1443927684 Assumption 1 - The 5th Race and the Darkness are separate races Assumption 2 - The Darkness was the only thing present during the Collapse First off, the Darkness itself. I'll reference Concept Art 1 with this. A large tetrahedral ship similar to the Traveler but with its own abilities. Its weakness is Light, which is why it was defeated during the Collapse, sustaining heavy damage. To be like the Traveler would mean that it has a shell. Based on the way that the other ships in CA 1 seem to bleed off the main one, I decided to make the Darkness's outer shell capable of doing so. I decided to give it a laser too, just for the fun of it. Gave it a cliche name and shipped it out. All the dubbed "Swarm" ships are also capable of firing a laser and sit around the size of a Fallen Ketch. Given the MAJOR difference between CA 1 and CA 2 and the appearance of ships nearly identical to CA 2 in-game, I decided to make it the "5th Race design". A bunch of ships with an undetermined number of defensive turrets and a large laser beam. Also capable of deflecting Light, which makes the presence of the Darkness more worrying. The Darkness itself resides in the Mothership, in a chamber I labeled the "Chamber of Darkness", where it controls the ship and releases its "Swarms" to be jettisoned out of the ship and into combat. To make that effect I drew inspiration from the SFX around the Heart of the Black Garden and the "Darkness" represented in the opening cutscene in D1 (wispy lines with particles around it). I made it so the Fleet was a larger version of the Darkness idea, with a much larger mothership and cruisers to scale. Each cruiser would be around the size of a Hive Warship (maybe a bit smaller) and the main one around twice the size of the Dreadnaught. It would make the fleet large, imposing, and completely capable of annihilating anything in their way (pls help Fallen and Cabal). imgur pic: https://imgur.com/a/lQuOC Any thoughts?>

  • The problem is that Bungie themselves have seemingly done away with “the darkness” and it seems we’ll have a direct species or evil race that will make other races thus far seem puny and have some similarity to something like the Geth in Mass Effect

        • Just a quick question; Everyone thinks that the Darkness will be here in D3. But doesn’t the Activision contract say that there will be four titles? Is this no longer valid? Or if it is, and we defeat the Darkness in D3, what will be in D4?

          • Over the weekend I watched a YouTube video about the 7 Seraphs and how they were likely, possibly, maybe almost used in D1 with regards to Rasputin. It was interesting and got me to wander through the Io Warmind vault last night. Now after reading this post those Darkness ships sure look like Warmind technology to me. Sleeper Simulant and the Tetrahedrons look like they almost come from the same factory. Maybe they were meant to be connected at some point (i.e. the new bad guys were called "Sleepers" or something) during D1 development but probably not anymore.

            • If what Nolan North said at the very, very beginning of the game is true, the Traveler made a sacrifice before the events of D1 that destroyed the Darkness.

              • ok... here me out, there would be this guy, in a big black cape... mkay? still there, cool. he has this helmet, that helps him breathe on mars, because its dusty and he has asthma and he has superpowers, known as.... the force. (I shit you not that is the coolest name ever) he has a sword made out of pure lazer light, and can choke you to death. his weapon is planet sized ship called the death star, and has issues. his name, translated from German - Literally means Dark Father - or Father of Darkness if you want to get into it. and for 16USD you can unlock him in a loot chest as a playable character.

                • Question,it's not to important, but is there a reason why you posted this in the community forums and not the lore forums?
