Disney *AND* World Gaming Community *FORCE* Electronic Arts (EA) To Remove *ALL MICROTRANSACTIONS* From Star Wars BattleFront II - - Time For Us To Do The Same To Activision/Bungie

I'm sure you all know about the World Record "DownVote" Thread on Reddit about Microtransactions in EA's Battlefront II ... Well, thanks to Disney (owners of Star Wars IP) and the Gaming Community, EA has removed *ALL MICROTRANSACTIONS* from SW BF 2. All rewards are earned by in-game skill and play-time. This is unprecedented as EA is the largest game company (publisher/producer/developer) in the world. Even more than Activision (contracting Bungie atm); so we as fans can overtake this. We can start our own rebellion against Activision and Bungie and win just as handedly. The truth is out there. We have won 1 war. We can win another...

  • *facepalm* Obviously poster you didn't read or pay attention to what was actually going on. EA was exhibiting practices of pay-to-win on Star Wars Battlefront 2, and there was a huge uproar by the community of the ridiculous play times it took for players to unlock heroes, and hero star cards through loot crates in the game. Destiny is not a pay-to-win game. The microtransactions in Destiny are purely cosmetic for shaders, ships, sparrows, and flashy armor pieces which you then have to infuse to make useful. I'm very okay with this, and I even understand it. It is a money maker for Bungie, and if players wanna buy a ship or a few shaders from eververse I quite honestly could not give less of a damn. Destiny's microtransactions are no different than Overwatch. And this is okay. If Bungie/Activision ever try to implement pay-to-win in Destiny, this community would absolutely lose its sh*t. I would hope that video game companies were watching what happened with the Star Wars game and took notes of what not to do.

    • If it does not affect the actual game then no real point. Some games let you play or pay if you don't have that kind of time or are too lazy to play for it. It normally is not much and pay to wins are not a very sturdy model. Pay to wins like STO is when you want T6 stuff after going through T1-5 and having to pay allot of money if you want to be #1. I never did but often they offered really good deals and DDO had things you could only purchase in game but allot of it you could purchase or get a pass. Every game has its tricks and Destiny is not a pay to win kinda game. What you are after is something that cannot happen due to changes that happened inside the company and thus resulting in Destiny being the way it is. No one says you had to buy the extras. I did not for STO as even 3 T6 battleships would run you about $100.00 or more depending on what you want to purchase. DDO was kinda a blend of paying for stuff now or you can pay for a subscription giving you full access instead of purchasing it piecemeal.

the micro-transactions in this game do not effect the actual game play at all.. it is all purely cosmetic. Battlefront was pay to win.. Destiny is pay to look fab. Big difference.

        • Totally disagree. The silver in this game is fun cosmetic ONLY. It has no additional skill or ability or power. SWB2 is the opposite. Down vote.

          • there is no need to get rid of these MTAs in this game.. they do not affect the game for others.. granted mods could possibly be seen as p2w but wtf does it do.. not much.. people would need to buy a lot in order to get a slight slight advantage. for everyone else. there is no need to buy into the whole micro transaction thing.. you get more than enough bright engrams over time. you get more than enough "good colors" to put on your gear (unless you used them while leveling up). in order to make future games and expansions cheaper (and only if they would be getting cheaper!) I would not oppose putting more MTAs in the game.. let people who have the dough buy exotic weapon skins, exclusive or very very rare color scemes, special or nearly exclusiv armor skins. Let people with more money get some cosmetics in order for everybody to have a cheaper game.. this should be a win win win .. there are a lot more ways to put in microtransactions that could help everybody without breaking the game, but the company running the game should be a lot more upfront and transparent about it. Like: "ok if x amount of microtransactions are done till date x, we can offer expansion abc for 30-60% less. players who purchased a certain amount could get a special "aura/ symbol" that lets everybody know that they helped getting the price of the game down and that would eliminate the stigma of "spending money ingame suckers". Not saying that this is THE ultimate solution, but certainly one way to look at it. Also being able to buy dedicated server access for those who seek it would be appropriate. So people who do not play competively or just pay casual can do so and people who want more could buy in. Get the prices of the base game and the expansions down.

            • The .8 metacritic score is my favorite part. The problem with removing them now, is the game was initially live with them. Which means there are people who probably 50, 100, 200, more dollars worth of them. Those people now have a distinct competitive advantage and will continue to have that advantage for as long as the lootboxes are taken out of the game. Meanwhile. now are they gonna charge people for the DLC's? Before the microtransactions were gonna pay for the DLC's.

Only an idiot would want microtransactions removed from a game that doesn't impact gameplay at all. -blam!- sakes kid.

                • Is bright engrams what you get from microtransactions? You can already get that with in game skill and playtime because you get one every time you fill your xp bar at level 20. And what you get from them is shaders, ghost shells with minor bonuses, different skins for sparrows and space ships, armor with 10 defense, different skins for exotic weapons if you've gotten them from playing otherwise, emotes, emblems, and blue mods. True, blue mods can be useful, but you can get that with in game skill and playtime by farming blues and leveling up the gunsmith. The rest is just cosmetic. It's true that microtransactions can be bad, but unless there's another place in game with microtransactions than the bright engrams that I haven't discovered, there's probably other games that the microtransaction protesters might want to focus on first.

                  • lol I highly doubt it. even if they do not have Microtransactions in the beginning, we will see them eventually. I just find it hard to believe there will be none whatsoever.
