Weird FPS drops due to Shadows Quality setting??

So, I have been encountering really weird fps drops in certain areas of the game. I could not for the life of me figure out what was causing it, so I just went on without doing anything. Then later on it started happening more frequently, after messing with each of the settings I have found the culprit to be the Shadows Quality setting. I had that set to highest so I switched it to high. Nothing happened, exactly the same. Granted I was testing this in one of the areas I was experiencing these drops. But then from high I switched it to medium and all of a sudden I get the solid 100fps my Acer X34 supports at all times. Now, the thing is, switching from high to medium in these problem areas increased my fps by 34-36 frames! That does not seem right at all! Yet in every area except these problem areas my fps stayed at 100fps with shadows on highest. This tells me it is something having to do with the game, not my setup. Also, note I have messed with every single setting to the maximum extent to find this out. It is legit just the Shadow Quality setting. i7 6700k 4.4GHZ 32GB DDR4 RAM 3200 2x GTX 1080 SLI 3440x1440 100hz G-Sync Windows 10

Fps drops from 110-144 to 70-80 that cause the mouse to become laggy also unless shadows are on medium. I have noticed there are certain places in forgotten zones(that can even be a simple underground tunnel) that these issues always happen, almost halving of the fps. All other times highest to med shadows make maybe 10 fps difference. 6700k at 4.5 16 gb ddr4 1080 sli 1440p 144hz gsync Win 10 64 All divers etc up to date.
