•
Posted by: The Awesome87 At the risk of being flamed to doom, I'm going to suggest another theory for those of you worried about the holes that seem to be appearing between the books and Reach: Perhaps Bungie does not consider the books to be cannon. There are already plenty of plot holes between the books and the games. For example, in First Strike it is stated that the UNSC had never before seen a brute, and that the brutes were serving as the Phrophet's honor gaurds. This fact was totally in conflict with the plot of Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Wars, and is even in conflict with every novel written since then. Also, The Fall of Reach states that humans didn't ever see an Elite before Reach fell. This also obviously incorrect when compared to the games and other novels. To top that all off, the other books don't even mention Skirmishers. The fact is that the books were not written by Bungie. They were coordinated by MS and 343. They're nice fluff material, but in the end, it doesn't look like they can be accepted as 100% Halo Gospel. So, as far as facts go, I'm going to accept Bungie's word over the books.
agreed

  •
Posted by: SangheiliShoe ...Who told poor super gorgeous Jen Taylor to overact as Dr. Halsey? My poor baby...Oh well :(
And why not? Cortana sprung from Halsey's mind. It makes sense. I see nothing wrong with it and think it's kinda cool. If you read The Fall of Reach, Master Chief thinks about how Cortana almost reminds him of a young Halsey. Don't you think you might be taking this a little too hard? [Edited on 08.20.2010 3:42 PM PDT]

  •
Posted by: Sinova1 ...There is the slightest chance that Halsey knew of the Noble team without knowing their origins or their true purpose...

...My guess is she didn't know where the Spartans came from but she knew how to use them...
Very doubtful. Remember, Halsey was the head of the Spartan-II Program. She handpicked those Spartans herself, and the books give the the strong impression she kept tabs on all of them prior to Reach's fall. She knew how many Spartans were on Reach and how many were off (See The Fall of Reach). Also, if you read Ghosts of Onyx, you'll see that Halsey is extremely surprised when she learns of the Spartan-IIIs on Onyx (after Reach's fall I might add, and by sheer accident; no intelligence gathering). With all due respect, what you're saying cannot be the case. If a team like Noble were to pop out of the blue (as they seem to have done), she would be suspicious. She knew her Spartans, and she knew them by name. . . . Actaully, now that I think about it, if Halsey is aware of Noble Team, as the trailer leads us to believe, that in itself is a plot hole right there when you apply what I just said to what we are shown in this trailer. Of course, as some have speculated (myself included), this trailer could be simply using Cortana and Halsey to formally introduce Noble Team. They did the same thing with ODST.

  •
Posted by: grif228 actually not all of alpha died because carter, emile, and jun are from alpha company and kat is from beta company. not sure about six and jurge is a spartan II. but congrats on the info you know your stuff well
How do you know they were from Alpha? And if that were the case, wouldn't their age be more along the lines of mid-to-late twenties, or early thirties instead of early twenties? EDIT: Ah, nevermind what I said about the age part. I just double checked Carter, Emile, and Jun's date of births. I thought the were younger. My bad. I'd still like to know how you know they were from Alpha. [Edited on 08.20.2010 3:06 PM PDT]

  • Wow, okay, so Bungie completely took my idea. A couple weeks before this video came out, I made This Video. Their video takes the idea directly from mine. I made a character synopsis for people who were living under a rock, telling about the basic personalities of the members of noble team. I have to deserve something for this...

  • Excellent summation! Everything you said is on point. Perhaps this conversation takes place before Reach is invaded. It's not like the UNSC didn't see the attack coming- they had over one hundred warships ready and waiting to defend Reach after the action on Cote d'Azur. They knew what was up, and so did Halsey. There is the slightest chance that Halsey knew of the Noble team without knowing their origins or their true purpose. She was rather adept at gathering intelligence. Perhaps they were her secret failsafe option for keeping the location of Earth safe when all else failed (she was also rather adept at coersion). My guess is she didn't know where the Spartans came from but she knew how to use them. That or Bungie just wanted to get the beautiful Jen Taylor in the recording booth one last time. :)

  • This may be heresy, dearest brothers, but with Halo: Reach, Noble Team Plothole and that cringingly cheesy viDoc, I am really scared Bungie messed this up. Halo 3 was a disaster (in my humblest of opinions, of course!) in every way for me with the mild exception of multi-player. Am disappoint. Am disappoint (again) that some people think Noble 6 is Spartan 117. This is mind boggling. What happened to fandom? Now I am scared people just blindly grope Bungie and worship all of their products as gold - just because it's them. As I begin to surround myself with hunter shields now, I would say they haven't quite reached Blizzard quality yet. Blizzard's quality spans across consoles, but then there are some supreme and vast amount of hardcore Halo haters(don't know whether to count WoW haters- because of the fact it's an MMO, which garners flak regardless) . Why is this? I sure hope I get to see a live action trailer to sustain my fire, which was nearly smothered by that cheddarfest viDoc. Who told poor super gorgeous Jen Taylor to overact as Dr. Halsey? My poor baby...Oh well :( Here's to a successful Halo Reach. I will be reading the updated Halo TFOR soon. I hope the cover art is a little nicer, since the original reminded me of a lame "Doom" novel, and I would like if Halo attracted some more fans. Keep the "bros" playing Call of Duty, please. I don't want an abundance of "SPARTIN117"s in a potential Halo MMO :P The beta was far too impressive to be doubting the multi-player. That aspect is sound! Halo just needs to nail this single player. For me and my brothers! Oly oly oxen free.

Another Halsey avatar [not unlike Cortona] picking another lucky Spartan? Cortana picking John? Is this all a rouse and we are actually playing as Spartan 117 in the battle of Reach [read the book again if you disagree ...]? Too much good to stuff to imagine on ... BTW I may have already accidentally guessed at this.

  • Another theory that i read from Spartan IJS's post is that the vidoc might just be a video that introduces noble team to you, and halsey or whatever A.I that is might not be in the game. [Edited on 08.19.2010 1:49 PM PDT]

  •
Posted by: Radiant Elite I think that she originally chooses Noble 6. But he dies and so she instead chooses the chief. This is why Cortana/Hasley Says about luck at the start of Halo 3. Because Chief survived Reach and Noble 6 didn't.
Incorrect. Read The Fall of Reach (excellent book). Cortana chose the Master Chief from the very beginning and no one else. Noble Team is an afterthought and this is the first mention of them ever. The whole team (except for Jorge) are also Spartan-IIIs which were basically super-soldiers massed-produced for cheap. They are neither as big, nor strong, fast, reflexive, etc. as Spartan-IIs (which is what Jorge is, and of course the Chief). S-IIIs didn't even have the shielded armor of the S-IIs. Not only that, but Noble Team's simply being on Reach has got to be one of the biggest plot-holes by far, since the S-IIIs where a top secret ONI project that NO ONE, not even Halsey who was the creator of the S-II Program, knew about. There were three S-III groups throughout the course of the war: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Alpha was completely wiped out in a suicide mission which was a key victory for humanity that no one would ever hear about (because if the public caught wind of a program that abducted children to train as cheaply mass-produced super soldiers for guaranteed suicide mission, there would be an outcry and morale would severely drop; also, humanity only had an estimated few months, which could possibly shrink to weeks, before they lost the war and were wiped out. Thus, S-IIIs "never existed." The planet of Onyx where the S-IIIs where trained was also top secret and "never existed." Beta Company met the same fate but had only two survivors (hold this thought, I'm coming back to it). The status of the current group, Gamma company, whether wiped out, scattered, or partly deployed, is unknown. However, Noble Team ARE NOT Gamma S-IIIs. If you look under "Games" on the home page and look up "Personnel," you'll see all the info on Noble Team including date of births, which shows them to be in their early twenties (except for Jorge who is about Forty). All S-III Gammas are about twelve years old (Spartans saw active duty at a young age). This would make the Beta Company survivors about twenty by the time Gamma Company was fit for active duty. But remember there were only two survivors, and they helped train the Gammas on Onyx (again, I'm coming back to this). Thus, we have this group of S-IIIs (you being one of them) in the Halo: Reach game that have no explanation for their being there, or where they came from and how. (For more on the Spartan-IIIs, see the novel Ghosts of Onyx by Eric Nylund--in fact, any Halo book with E. Nylund's name on it [including Fall of Reach], pick it up. His are the best by far.) HOWEVER, despite what I have said thus far in the above paragraph about Beta and Gamma Companies, Bungie has provided an explanation for where Noble 6 and Kat come from. Again, if you look under "Games" on the home page and go to "Personnel" . . . aw frick it, look here: http://www.bungie.net/projects/reach/article.aspx?ucc=personnel&cid=24040 This is a letter that the top trainer of the S-IIIs sent to his right hand man. In the first paragraph, he talks about how they were lucky to get S-312 (Noble 6) out of Beta Company (you'll see the Greek symbol for "Beta") immediately after training, and that they were "...lucky to get S-320 (Kat) out at all..." Interestingly enough, Bungie has not provided an explanation for the rest of Noble Team. Hopefully they will. As best as I can figure, the S-IIIs in Noble Team would have to be from Beta Company, but they only provide explanations for N6 and Kat. Until I can see some documented proof of where the rest came from, Noble Team is just a plot hole and an inconsistency in the Halo fiction.
READ THIS: At the part of the video when Hasley asks to see Noble team. At the point when it says "Carter, Noble 1" or whatever, it sounds just like Cortana (whereas Hasley's voice is slightly different in tone). That's my opinion any way.
Possibly, but at any rate, this is just Bungie's way of formally introducing each member of Noble Team for the sake of the trailer. It's not like Cortana is deciding which Spartan would suit best to carry her. As I said, she chose the Master Chief from the very beginning. She explains this herself at the beginning of Halo 3. Now with all this being said, I want to offer some friendly advice: it's helps to review material about the lore of something (especially if you know it's out there, and especially when it's considered part of the cannon, which the Halo books are) before speculating on a public forum about said fiction. :-)

  • Apart from the horrible script and voice acting from whoever was voicing Hasley, that was awsome. I lol'd at the Army of Hunters XD Though Kat was firing that Pistol very slowly. Please don't tell me it's been reduced to firing once every second, it was perfect in the beta!
