What Makes the Fallen Click?

The Fallen, or Eliksni, are multi-armed biped aliens who lived on a planet far from Sol. They were once Kells ruling over houses, riches flowing and technology boosting. They once had the Traveler, it came to them in its interstellar mission. However, nothing lasts forever... During an event called the "Whirlwind", the Fallen homeworld was destroyed. Similar to our Collapse, we don't know all of the details. We do know, thanks to the Doom of Chelchis, that Oryx was present at the Whirlwind. However, the Darkness itself could've also been there. After this, they broke apart. They turned into scavengers and pirates. They devolved. Civil wars broke out and left only a few houses. These houses were the Devils, Kings, Winter, and Wolves. Thanks to a lot of Dregs and worried Vandals, some Fallen split off and formed the House of Exile, no banner, no official ranks, no rules. After the SIVA Crisis, where the Devils found an ancient nanotechnology, the houses ditched the Cosmodrome and united under the House of Dusk. Enough history, how do they work? Well, let's start with their outright appearance. The Fallen are slim and agile, as they can crawl on their 4 arms and 2 legs. They have 4 glowing eyes, suggesting a large sight range. They have an exoskeleton, meaning they are at least somewhat insectoid. They have nails, not far off from human nails, with the exception of their feet. Their mouths are oddly shaped, with two large bottom fangs and a diamond shape. It's possible that the Fallen have endoskeletons as well. In the Plaguelands in D1, Fallen heads were placed on spikes with SIVA flowing through them. These looked oddly skeletal, but it could just be dried up Fallen with their eyes clawed out. However, if those are skulls, then that would mean that the Fallen are durable with two skeletons. Despite that, hemoglymph is a fluid that runs through insects. A Heavy Shank spotted with that name is on Titan. This suggests that Fallen's life source or "ether" flows through their bodies like hemoglymph does. Speaking of ether, it once ran free on their homeworld. Now it is generated by Servitors. It's unknown the exact process, but judging by the piles of dead bodies near the Devil's Lair and large Servitors being able to "eat" you... well... it seems that Servitors turn people into ether through a complicated system. Ether also comes out of their bodies when you shoot them in the head. Think of it as a "soul". This just releases ether into the air, though. Ether also has a neat ability to grow Fallen. A well-fed Eliksni is nearly twice the size of a human. Dregs and Wretches, the lowest rung of the Fallen command structure, are small and meek. Ether also allows Fallen to regrow their limbs. Dregs do this when becoming Vandals. Ether can actually be replaced. The Devil Splicers during the SIVA Crisis proved this. They let themselves get infected by SIVA, which ran through their bodies the same way ether did. This infection led to the Splicers having SIVA shields, SIVA legs, and even the ability to infest the area with a high SIVA density. Fallen social structure goes like this, Kell - Archon Priest - Archon - Baron - Captain - Vandals/Marauders - Dregs/Wretches. Servitors and Prime Servitors are generally held up to the highest regard since they produce ether. The Fallen also produce Shanks, which are programmable robots that can have multiple functions. Exploder Shanks charge and explode, Tracer Shanks are snipers, and Repeater Shanks have a machine gun on the bottom. The Fallen created the S.A.B.E.R. project to upgrade shanks. The S.A.B.E.R. shanks we've seen each had important roles. S.A.B.E.R.-2 was tasked with hacking Rasputin's systems and S.A.B.E.R.-6 was tasked with securing and transporting stolen goods from the Cabal and Last City. The Fallen have a good grip on technology. Their Ketches come out of slipspace, they can turn themselves completely invisible, the Servitors are a marvel of scientific genius, and they can make their arc bolts track enemies. Splicers are a division of each Fallen house that experiment with technology, replaced parts of their bodies in the process. By this logic, Variks, the last of the House of Judgement, is a splicer. Thaviks, the Depraved is also a splicer, as his legs are robotic. A final noteworthy, non-SIVA, splicer is Taniks, the Scarred, who murdered Cayde-6's friend, prompting him to join the Vanguard. Despite being scavengers, the Fallen still hold some nobility and loyalty. When the Vex on Nessus captured a Fallen squad and told them to kill each other, none of them raised their weapons. And despite THAT, they still think we stole the Traveler. TL:DR - Seriously? Comment if I got anything wrong... again. Master Post: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/234171689

  • I don't care about their history personally. Those ugly 4 armed alien freaks need to die! I do my part daily to wipe them from our galaxy. Vex, Hive, Cabal, and Taken must also die by the hands of my 3 Guardians. Kill all aliens for the sake of humanity!!

    • I definitely feel we will be allies with at least some of the houses moving forward. Here is my take on the remaining houses, a lot of speculation so don't view this as gospel... House of Dusk - Main Fallen house throughout the galaxy at present - Made up of deserters from the other Fallen Houses - Doubtful as an ally at this stage House of Kings - Thought to be still in play - From some sources they could currently be ruled by Prince Uldren as they were described as a broken house - A lot of are thought to have joined House of Dusk - Possibility of being a future ally - For some reason in my mind I believe the Kings are the biggest candidate for becoming allies moving forward House of Devils - Most likely disbanded - Pretty much completely abandoned at this point after the SIVA crisis - Most likely any remaining House members have jumped ship and joined the House of Dusk - Very doubtful as allies moving forward House of Exile - Presumably still in play - Primarily made up of exiles/rebels/outcasts - No predominant leaders - May have joined with House of Dusk although doubtful - Could be recruited to work with us moving forward House of Judgement - Still in play (As long as Variks is around) - Only known allied House currently - Only known member is Variks - Variks current state is unknown but their is nothing to say he could not recruit more fallen - Good probability of continuing their allegiance with Humanity House of Wolves - Pretty much non existent - After the death of Skolas and their last grasp for power after the events of the Taken War they are leaderless - Any remaining wolves are most likely now with House of Dusk - Doubtful as an Ally moving forward House of Winter - Possibly still around - A lot of their members may have joined House of Dusk - Variks almost recruited one of their Baronesses before she was Taken - Only House to show allegiance towards Skolas during the Wolf rebelion - Doubtful as an ally moving forward House of Scar - Thought to be extinct - Taniks was thought to be a member of House of Scar before going rogue - Doubtful as an ally moving forward House of Rain - Thought to be extinct - Very little known about the house - Prophecies suggest they will rise again and one of their own will unite the houses to become Kell of Kells - Future DLC plot perhaps - Doubtful as an ally House of Stone - Thought to be extinct - Very little known about the house - Used to be ruled by the legendary Kell Chelchis who fought Oryx and was ultimately defeated - Doubtful as an ally

        • Just a slight correction, Variks is not a splicer. He had his upper arms docked by Skolas, which is a huge dishonor among the fallen, much more so than docking the lower set. He was also not a splicer, but a scribe. Splicers are basically mad scientists, and Variks definitely was not that. Also, he didn't augment himself. The queen had some arms built for him after they found him, since he remained loyal to her. Other than those few issues it's a great list. I'm really hoping we see Variks again at some point, and that he's obtained a small following of peaceful eliksni. It would create so many possibilities for future expansions, as well as destiny 3.

                • I believe that maybe, after news of how the cabal where unable to gain the acceptance of the traveler, the fallen will see that indeed the traveler does what it wants, even when an alien race has completely destroyed the last of another's kind and captured the traveler itself. Maybe, the fallen will see that violence and stealing the traveler back is not the answer, and maybe they can form an alliance. Throughout the lore even in destiny 1 it has shown that there is a strong possibility of a fallen/human alliance, and especially now, one of the mission straight up hints at this. "The enemy of my enemy", a mission where you save a fallen captain, and the fallen captain gifts you with a methane reactor core, capable of hooking up to a servitor generating mass amounts of either for his fallen. The old phrase goes as follows: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Finish the mission title, and you can see the meaning behind the mission. As the ghost said, throughout the mission there is something unique about this captain, how he seems smarter than the rest. The fallen are hard to understand.

They're gonna end up the same as the Covenant did in Halo. Most will be ally's and some will be rogue.

                        • I just hope that the the Kell of Kings (and all of his and other united houses og Fallen ) become allies soon. The Fallen are essentially just like us. The Collapse and Whirlwind are essentially the same. They misunderstood the Traveler and how it was with us, but we also misunderstood their intentions.

                        • So if the fallen believe that we stole the Traveler from them, why have they never made an attempt to steal the Light for themselves as Ghaul did?

                          • Nice info man, I really do hope that we make a truce with some of the houses! Kings could be a good candidate or perhaps one of the house we have yet to come in contact with... That being said I REALLY hope at some point they become a playable race! I know they would need to put a lot of work into the mechanics behind their different structuring having 4 arms and such and it would be a totally different ball game from what we have currently but I really think this would blow everyone away! Anyway I made a post a while back contemplating with the idea of the Eliksni as an ally/playable character with all of the credit going to the artist/writer (Ste Marshall) behind the initial concept... Take a look and see what you think: https://www.bungie.net/ar/Forums/Post/214113177

                          • I feel like if at other circumstances (such as in if we weren't fighting over the Traveler's power) the Human and Eliskini races could have been interstellar allies.
