That whole "let the player speak for the character" is trash. This isn't some MMO Roleplay server.
I can think of one and only one game where I didn't like the VA and it was mostly just the main character. FFX, Tidus sounded like a chump but back then it was cool just to have so much VA in a rpg.
Aside from that one game a talking main character hasn't detracted from my gaming experience.

I think my favorite part of these debates (gun play vs ability focus, PvE vs PvP, Guardian vocals, etc.) Is finding the facets of what different people want from a "shared-world shooter". Whether it's more MMO or Shooter on any one feature is a talking point, and Bungie's been asked to make one pizza for twelve people who want different toppings.

I think there is some confusion on the MMO bit. The only MMO element is the shared world aspect of the game, which is social spaces and patrol grounds. All the other "MMO" elements are just RPG elements and most RPGs have VA for the main character. They made the pizza and the chief complaint wasn't the VA it was the story. Cutting out basic storytelling features makes more problems.
