If you read further down in the Reddit thread it starts to make more sense, and I have to say, this is basically the only real positive and needed game change I have seen so far. I don't really care about new weapons, strikes, areas, missions, subclasses, all of these things we have gotten in expansions. I see no need for 4v4, locked load outs, or anything else. This though looks like an actual step in the direction of actually allowing the player to take an active role in GEAR CUSTOMIZATION like an MMO should have. Not just weapon reforging, but building gear to fit your needs. This is from the poster of the Reddit thread: "Under where it says 'Weapon Perks' the square light grey box is the intrinsic perk that can role differently. The rest is the fixed weapon tree that will be the same every time. Under where it says 'Weapon Mods' the bottom left black box with yellow is any equipped weapon mods. The white/light grey box with a red stripe through it is the shader slot. If it was an energy weapon the element would show in between these two mod boxes as I mentioned in the original post." So basically, the "perks" as we know them in D1(sights, etc) are what's going to be static or the same for every weapon with that name, or the basic perk tree of the weapon. The intrinsic perk can differ and gives the gun a different "build" which means changing, for example, a hand cannon from fast rate of fire/low impact/low range/high stability to a build of low RoF/high impact/high range/low stability. Then you add mods to customize. Here is another post from the thread explaining how it addresses god roles, RNG, etc. "The Intrinsic perk idea seems like a really good middle ground on the whole "God Roll" system. There isn't that whole hunting down eyaslunas for months trying to get that God roll that you might not even get but also at the same time there is still a hunt for weapons. Now you can say "Well today I am going to go for X Scout Rifle that has an impact perk on it." If there is lets say 6 different intrinsic perks then there is a 1 in 6 chance of getting your desired weapon instead of a 1 in god knows chance of getting a pot luck weapon roll." So basically if you know you want a specific hand cannon for PVP or raids because of the sights and the static perk tree it has (every one of these hand cannons will have these perks), but you want a specific build like high impact, or high stability, all you have to do is get one to drop with the right intrinsic perk, then put your mods on it to top it off. My only questions are: 1. If this is true why the hell would Bungie not make this public, and show off this customization at the reveal? People have been asking for this and a lot of the negative comments have been that we haven't seen evidence of any real fundamental game improvements. Revealing this isn't like revealing some major story line twist, or a list of exotics, or raid bosses. 2. What are the mods and how do you obtain them? Hopefully they are drops from bosses, nightfall rewards, found by exploring, or something like this and you can't just run to the gunsmith or Eververse and buy them.

  • You're straight up wrong about the first mod slot. That's the Infusion slot lol. So the only "modifying" you do is changing the color and what damage type it has, if elemental.

  • I'm going off of the thread. Where are you getting this info, from the beta?

  • Again, I was going off of this statement from the Reddit poster that attended the event and played the build from the event. "Under where it says 'Weapon Mods' the bottom left black box with yellow is any equipped weapon mods." The pic you have in the link looks like the black and yellow box is indeed for infusion. I don't know either way and it looks like we are both just citing other people's info. That tweet looks like it was a screen shot from the PS4 beta. I hope you're wrong but I have no idea and I was just trying to clarify the Reddit post info and give my opinion on if it is correct. Your linked pic looks more current and casts a shadow on the weapon mod possibility, but you may be right.

  • No, I'm playing the beta now. That's my tweet, and screenshots I just took. The first slot is indeed Infusion. Armor has the infusion slot, an empty slot (for unknown purposes) and a shader slot. If weapons had a mod slot that was for the purposes of customising the stats/abilities of the gun, they would have an empty slot as well.

  • Ok well that makes more sense. I know that they weren't making any of the mods and customization available for the beta so maybe that's why it's reading as infusion, but my guess is that you're right. Which sucks honestly. If the only real customizing you can do is adding a shader and elemental then I'm back to being unexcited for D2.

  • I'm 99.9% sure that weapons won't be getting modifications. Just color changes and type changes.

  • Probably wanted people to learn how it works themselves in BETA. I had to read thru it twice to get a grasp of what the hell all that meant.

  • To answer question 1. This is exactly why people need to relax and be open minded. No developer gives away all the secrets of games before the release. There's probably gonna be a lot of small things we see added to the game that you see as a positive.

  • You realise that the "intrinsic perk" is actually just the weapon archetype description? lol

  • Then why would you be able to get a Better Devils with Agressive, and another with Balanced?

  • Read it in context man. Of course D2 needs new content, which all of these things are, but I don't care about hearing about them as the meat and potatoes of how D2 is going to be better than D1, because it's not any change. I clearly said that D1 expansions have provided new strikes, missions, etc. so what I care to see is new innovations to the game. No shit that the content is the actual game.

  • This actually doesnt sound bad at all. Im really curious if this is the case. It could make a fundemental difference in how Destiny is played.

  • 1) Because Bungie wanted that to be a surprise. 2) My money is either loot drops or Gunsmith.
