-Edit (Disclaimer) This is coming from a top 500 player on leaderboards
Hello there, this is going to be pretty much a rant about the current Crucible meta.
Firstly my name is Myst, I'd like to say that I'm a pretty decent PvP player, specifically Trials. You see, I've been a Sniper main since day 1, and combined with the sniper patch they put up a few months ago, and the current high caliber pulse rifle (clever dragon especially) meta they pretty much make them useless outside of 3v3. Even in 3v3 however, they are suffering as a whole, but not as bad due to the slower gameplay feel.
What do I think they should do? I think they should give higher rate of fire pulses a large range drop off. For instance, weapon types like Hopscotch Pilgrim with have a great range for damage, as well as stability. But the lower rate of fire like Clever Dragon, will have a range drop off lets say after medium range. This way atleast other types of pulse rifles will be used. For high caliber rounds? I'd say just take it off of high rate of fire pulses. That perk combined with high rate of fire pulses right now is destroying the meta, as I'm sure you all know.
Next I'd like to talk about shotguns. You know, the whole thing that started "what's a primary". Ever since they reintroduced matador in year 3, shotguns have been roughly 75% of the crucibles secondary weapon kills according to facts. (This is all shotguns, if you can find out matador specifically I'd love to know) The numbers themselves should be a huge indicator for Bungie to find out to balance them in some way. I'm not sure how they could do it, besides maybe reducing base range of higher impact shotguns, or maybe widening the spread.
Snipers, are they OP? Depends who you ask. In the right hands, a sniper can be VERY useful, but for the general community they are pretty bad in their current state. I have around 22,000 sniper kills in PvP as I'm typing this, and in my opinion I think they should stay the same as is, if the above standards are met. Meaning if they balance shotguns, pulses, and high caliber rounds, I think snipers will once again be viable in more situations in their current state.
Stormcaller Melee/Juggernaut Shields. How infuriating is it to play against 3 people on the opposing team using such an annoying strategy? In my eyes, you'll see me rage a bit. Combined with Clever Dragon and Matador, it makes me say toxic things that I regret saying later a lot of the time. I think the Stormcaller melee perk that grants extra range should be reduced. That way the other options will be viable, and the melee will no longer be known as the "thunder snipe". Next we have Juggernaut. This perk is so incredibly annoying, to the point where I can't explain all of the rage it makes players feel. Either lower the time the shield is up, or reduce the damage the shield can take.
Lastly I'd like to talk about the current state of the game compared to before, like year 1. I can confidently say that majority of players that have stuck with the game since year 1, have preferred year 1 over the following years. I'm sure a lot of it is the game is running stale, (which I understand) but mixed in with some PvP aspects as well. What are some of the issues now in PvP? Auto rifles are bad overall in PvP. Scouts are good on some maps, but get outclassed by pulses. Hand Cannon's are great if you get the right roll, but the whole "phantom bullet" thing just doesn't make any sense. Sidearms are actually not that bad, but again get outclassed by shotguns. Fusion Rifles... I actually like them and they are really good if you know how to use them, but once again, get outclassed by shotguns. Pulses, Shotguns, and Snipers are up above, of course. If you've made it this far, thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to read this.
Best Regards,
Myst

xD but in your live stream your using the meta you say needs a nerf

Edited by Chris P Snipes: 1/20/2017 10:16:33 AMI wish they had a stale pvp mode where all settings are preset for everyone: -no different classes -just 1 regular doublejump -no super -regular melee -regular nade (that bounces off of walls or the ground) -white weapons across the board that have comparable ttk in their respective ranges -no bloom -midair ads shooting will land where you aim -no fancy armor perks or anything like that That would actually be a fun mode and i can see myself playing it nonstop Edit: i know this will never be implemented to because its technically not possible. But still, id dig it.

I love how 77 percent want a change, but whenever someone calls for a clever dragon or shotgun nerf, people freak out and down vote. 🤔
-
And pvp destroyed pve.....
-
I'm at a crossraods.. After the update (whenever it happens) This community will flock to the next OP weapon that they are told to by their fav youtube channel.
-
I believe your top 500 in being shit. If you want something nerfed just nerf yourself and stop playing. Theres hundreds of thousands of people that enjoy this game with no complaints Minority should speak for the majority. Get good or stop playing simple If you wanna play something that doesnt have rng based loot there are several games Overwatch,cod,bf1, and starwars battlefront. All of which has everything set for you to play. You dont have to grind for anything just plug and play
-
I like this meta it's more aggressive and fast paced, it's so much better than the last when people literally didn't move from behind thier sniper scope. Would be better if primary's got a buff so there were more usable ones to.

This is just my 2 cents on this matter. I’m not good with sniping. I’m not good with Fusion rifles either. I’ve tried it and I suck at it. Side arms?...Worse! The only thing I can compete with is a shotgun. I’m using a Matador and sometimes I can’t even kill with one shot when I shoot them at point blank range. You know why? Because there is a bit of a “Lag” in the game. There is a small “Lag” in all the crucible games. What you see on screen is not 100% real time. There is a fraction of a second “Lag” in all of the crucible games. Shotguns are not OP. They are just good in close range combat just like sniper rifles are good in long distance combat. If shotgun kills with one shot in close range, so does a sniper rifle if you get a headshot. Not much difference. Now you are asking to “Nerf” shotguns? Are we gonna “Nerf” the one-shot headshot kill on sniper rifles and make it 2 shots to the head to kill? I bet you would not like that, huh? Leave the shotguns alone. If I get killed by a sniper riffle, I don’t go around crying to “Nerf” them because they are OP. I just get a gun that suits me and fight back if I can. That’s what this game needs, “Variety!” We can’t be all snipers, you know. And Stormcaller Melee? Really? It doesn’t even kill in PvP with just one melee alone. The hunter’s “Back Stab” perk is much stronger than that, killing you with one blow to the back. The hunters have “Throwing Knives” and the titans have “Shoulder Charge”. Both are “Range” melees. It’s just suited that Warlocks should have one “Range” melee as well. Leave the Stormcaller melee alone. That’s what we need with this game. VARIETY!

Bungie needs to look at this barely anyone likes current PvP and it shows. Don't understand why we have been so long without a balance patch and they still take 2 week vacations twice since ROI came out.
-
It need to change to freshen things up. But its not like this is anything special, or worse then year 1. Its exactly like year 1, and like its always been. The only difference is maybe how long its been since a weapon tuning patch.
-
I'm ready to rage about the next TLW/Thorn/felwinters/Nirwens/hawksaw/mida/grasp/clever dragon/ matador/doctrine/etc
-
In case you didn't notice every meta destroys pvp for some the only way they will truly find balance is to fix primaries so that each type is dominant in their preferred range whatever that maybe and that they can compete with special weapons
-
i voted for other. i agree that the meta needs to get changed in terms of sticky grenades and MATADOR 64. pulse rifles are fine in my opinion. it was clever dragon that ruined the archetype. people were able to obtain a waltz or grasp through conventional means via vendor or chest. clever dragon changed that with progress based rewards. c. snipers need a bit of a buff in terms of decrease on flinch. saladin's vigil is kinda annoying due to its kinda insane range. no nerfs are needed to the really high rof archetype pulses e.g. grasp. i want Mida to get buffed so it can try to compete with pulses.

No mention of Palindrone? Meanwhile 100% of all players in Farcog tournament are using it or Esyluna. People still dont talk about them being the easiest gun to get kills with, 2 body shot and 1 HEADSHOT. Also any guardian at less than 100% health is a two tap kill... Handcannons may have a phantom bullet randomly but they do 86 per headshot at crazy ranges that they should not be doing. Look at other handcannons stats... they are backwards, the faster RoF and less ttk ones have the slowest ttk, and less damage per bullet. All while Palindrone type have max range, more damage per bullet, and higher aim assist because of the range... no stat on any other HC is better. They are 100% of all sweaties
-
I'd say that balance is impossible to achieve with all the different archetypes that kill in the same number of shots, so I'd say that the meta changing is the only thing that will, ironically, will keep Destiny's PvP fresh.

Edited by efjay Odinson: 1/17/2017 7:05:21 AMI must be playing a different game cos the majority of matches I've played recently have had people using various weapons and not just the Clever Dragon and Matador. If the problem was as bad as people make out I would expect to see more matches dominated by these two weapons but I don't. I seem to be able to enjoy games without encountering any of the "cancer" that's its supposed to contain, and I'm not looking at the results screen with a sense of having been disadvantaged by anything other than my own skill level. Is this problem being over exaggerated to benefit certain players?

80% Holy shit Primaries. Please buff them.

What a waste of time

Seems that the fellow warlocks are having a blast rn. All i see is shotgun melee warlocks gliding in the air. Dont let me start on that clutch super that is stormcaller...
-
For what it's worth I think the overall problem with destiny are it's inconsistencies. There is a whole list of these that I experience when I play pvp none when I play pvp. For example: where is the cool down on the shade stepping and twilight boosting? I have been in matches where hunters and Titans moving around the map as if there is no cool down. Playing trials where level advantages are suppose to be in effect and getting one shot by a player who 10 light levels below you and you shoot them with a shotty and it only takes them down to 25% health. Being domed with a sniper while hitting the player with critical hits with high cal. Sticking people with fusion grenades and they survive. Seeing a hunter shoot their tether and it not tether the enemies. Getting killed by a Nova bomb when you run behind the warlock that threw it. Getting shot threw surfaces and actually see the bullet trails go through them. Playing trials and playing a team that's going for their flawless on your 4 win card. Thought you were suppose to be paired up based on card wins? There are more but I'm tired of complaining about what looks like a game that the developers have decided to just let it be what it is, an inconsistent lag fest.
-
I agree with adding a sharp damage drop off for pulse rifles and probably a slight impact buff to autos, you just never see ARs in the crucible anymore. Got two tapped multiple times last night by Clever dragons and the like ( but mostly clever dragons) repeatedly at ranges that should only have been attempted by a scout rifle (75-100m roughly). I'm not saying that it shouldn't be possible to shoot at that range, but a high impact scout or any scout really should win a primary gun fight at those ranges.

Biggest issue? Special. Change it to if you die you lose your special. Easy.

Shotguns: One of two perks are required in order to keep a shotgun: Rifled Barrel or Reinforced Barrel. Bungie will nerf these perks in order to "reign in" shotgun use and for no other reason than shotguns are the most used weapon and these are the most obvious perks that make them perform so well. They may also add another frame to equip and aim, possibly increase spread, but definitely reduce those two perks. The problem with that is those are the same perks which make Hand Cannon register shots. Hopefully they offset the decrease in range from those two perks with increased range on all hand cannons that can roll with those perks. Stormcaller: Reduce the melee range by 2 meters and reduce the snap detection by 30 degrees and see what happens. Juggernaut / Shoulder Charge: These perks should deactivate upon use of double jump, just like they do when you slide. To offset, they could give Titans a speed buff when they are active. Say double the ground movement speed. Something. I am very curious as to if and/or how they will address high rate of fire Pulse Rifles (77 RoF) and (in general) Auto Rifles. I also wouldn't be surprised to see something about Skip Grenades and Axion Darts come up.
