Vampire attacks

Does anyone have any idea how to avoid these bastards killing all the named npc's? I know there will be an attack when the guards start talking about vampires. Fast traveling seems to increase the chance of an attack. Do they attack when I'm not in town? Any tips would be appreciated, I've resorted to avoiding towns as much as possible. Not using mods, trophy hunt play through.

I recommend returning to a previous save just before the attack and then either avoid going to the town until later, or just use the knowledge to rush like hell to the city entrance. That is of course if you're putting off doing Dawnguard.

  • I hate this on my unmodded file so damned much. I always save the Dawnguard for last because I like to go in leveled nicely (vampires and Dawnguard members alike are severely OP at lower levels and only get stronger), and so they've got ample time to murder all my blacksmiths across Skyrim. Apparently Eorlund Greymane is dead, because I can't find the fcker. Thank TALOS I finished the Companion quest line before he went ghost. I do remember on my 360 he used to go invisible and sit at the grindstone, but this ain't that again.

    • No way to avoid the attacks. If you're putting off doing dawnguard, you can try to arrive at a city at night. It's tedious as hell, but less chance of a named npc getting killed (in theory). Ignoring that, the only way to get rid of these attacks is to do the dawnguard quests. If you join the dawnguard, you'll have to complete the entire quest line to stop them. If you join Harkon, they should stop after the first quest

        • Do the dawnguard quests. They'll become less frequent, and once you finish the questline they'll stop attacking cities completely.

Just beat the dawnguard questline on the Dawnguards side. They won't appear after you beat it.

              • Just wait until the 2 dragon cult members show up in town... They were surprisingly powerful for my low level character, killed 2 guards before the rest of whiterun and I brought them down

                  • Just stay out of towns between 9pm and 5 am. Or you can do the Dawnguard quest line

                      • I'd recommend fast traveling to a location near the town you wish to visit. This will lessen the chance of a dragon/vampire attack occurring at that town, though you may still have a random encounter wherever you traveled to.

Wait before fast travelling. Time it so you can arrive at day time. Or get a OHK weapon to rid them entirely.

                          • There is no way to make them stop without mods.. You can make them appear less after you beat Dawnguard.

                          • One of the biggest broken things about Skyrim lmao! This goes for any party or enemy that attacks based on time. The higher level you are the more annoying it can be, too. Every other time I fast travel I've got a legendary dragon crawling up my ass man, I swear. And they're all fire variants, and I'm a Vampire. Gonna search around for a mod to cut that out, hopefully I get it.

I had to fetch a sword for some scrub and decided to put if off. An hour later I find his body laying in white run next to the body of a vampire thrall.

                                • Vampires will only attack at night, and since fast traveling fast forwards time it does increase the chances of them attacking if you use it. If you find yourself in a situation where they can't be avoided, set the difficulty to novice and go HAM on them with any fire damage you have at your disposal. Also, vampires will not attack a town while you're not there.
