Retail brings out the stupid in the world

Working Walmart electronics, I've been asked: •Does this case get Wi-Fi? •Where do you put your broadbands? •Do you sell TVs? (Asked whilst standing 20 feet away from a wall of running tvs) •Are your Bluetooth speakers wireless? And the mother of all stupid, the most aggravating one, I'm always asked while in uniform, on the floor, usually tending to a cellular phone or video game... •Do you work here? Anybody got anything better?

    • Don't work retail if you can't stand people asking what you consider stupid questions. I work service and sell retail. I get asked stupid questions all the time. Does it bother me and ruin my day? No. I'm sure you've asked plenty of stupid questions in your life

    • Working at Edy's What flavor ice cream do you have? *all flavors available atm right in front of them* Do you make shakes? * sign behind me says so. The milkshake machine should've also been a giveaway* Had fun with this one. -What flavor shakes do you have? "Any flavor of ice cream you see here" -Can I have a chocolate shake? "No" -Why not?! You said any ice cream here! I want a chocolate shake! "No" - let me see you manager *she's already here trying to hold back the laughter* "She's right there" :I want a chocolate shake * manager says no. The dude is pissed now* -WHY NOT!! * manager finally said it's because there's no chocolate ice cream here we ran out* - laughs at himself realizing his own stupidity and asks for vanilla.

      •
•Do you work here?
The other questions are pretty bad, but this one is understandable. Having accidentally assumed people wearing shirts similar to a store's uniform actually worked at the store numerous times in the past, I now ask that just to be on the safe side. :s

        •
Do you work here?
This is just out of courtesy. I frequently get asked if I work in Wal Mart when I go there after my own job because I dress in business appropriate attire (button down dress shirt and pants). People just want to be sure they're not asking somebody who isn't an employee.

            • Honest truth... Going into work and get stopped by some lady who looked seriously pissed off. She demanded to know why we were shut. I said the store opens in 30 mins, at 9 o'clock. She then tells me it's 9.30. I tell her it's not. She gets even more angry and shows me her watch. I tell her that the clocks went back last night. She turned even more red then walked back to her car and drove off.

                • From working at McDonald's I've seen the entire stupid spectrum. My favorite experience was one day when I was taking cash and orders in the drive thru. On one of the screens is all of the orders and usually the one at the top is for the car at the window. So a lady came up to the window talking on the phone. I asked her if she had "this order" to make sure she got the right food. It was some snobby woman in a nice Lexus. She said "Yea whatever" and just handed me her card. Well, guess what? She got the wrong order. Not because it was my fault, but because she didn't care to listen when I asked if the order I had on screen was hers. In a couple of minutes I was requested to the front counter by none other than that woman. She was very upset, saying "You messed up my order," or "A manager should know what they're doing." I told her we would refund the order and remake it but she didn't care. She was more interested in trying to make me feel dumb because I was a fast food manager. She kept talking about driving a Lexus as if it was for the elite. After a minute of her ranting about how stupid fast food employees are I finally just said: "Shut up and get out of here." She was taken aback, she said "I'll be back, and I'm gonna speak with someone higher and you'll be fired." I just laughed at her. Really though, if someone is disruptive in the restaurant a manager is legally obligated to tell them to leave. Not ask them, tell them. I was 17 at the time anyways, I didn't care if I was fired. But damn was satisfying to tell that bitch to shut up mid-sentence.

                  • Apparently I'm able to "just get one" when out of stock of said item. One of the times I snapped and just told the customer the genie just isn't powerful enough and got the most puzzled stare for the next few minutes.
