Not exotics. They can drop higher. Legendaries drop up to 330 though

They do that so you can't get to max light just by opening engrams and stuff. You actually have to do activities that give you 335 legendaries, like the raid and so forth. Not really stupid at all.

Makes sense. I haven't got an exotic recently but last one was 335 so seems to be just a cap on legendary which is ok as it makes the raid abd CoE worth doing
