Yes. Aiming the gun is easy
Yes. The range can be annoying
Yes. Almost anyone can use it effectively from day 1
But being a GOOD shotgunner isn't easy. Top tier shot gun players have immense skills in movement, pressuring opponents, and split second decision making.
I'm not defending shotgunners because I am one. Most people who know me, know that I snipe 99% of games. But it's kind of bullshit to discredit the skill set of another player.
I personally find using shotguns effectively very hard due to my passive nature, so when people make the statement that they take "no skill"... well I must just suck really bad. Right?
Watch the video, actually listen to my argument, then debate it all you want.

Before year 3, ill agree, it took a certain level of skill to use a shotgun. Now its cake, lets be honest. Heres your guide for shotgun-warrior crucible domination. Step 1. Equip Matador 64 Step 2. Pull trigger Congrats! Now youre a shotgun god.

Shotgunning isn't easy. I'm not an amazing PvP player by any means, but to me shotguns like any other gun in the game are situational IMO. In the raid, in IB, Crucible or whatever, your build or what you want to run for the situation may dictate your gun choice. Subclass, and the map layout are examples of why I might run a certain combo over another and I may change weapons and subclass or even subclass layout, based on the map. I usually run a sniper as a secondary. I have a full auto 335 Two to the Morgue shotty, that I like to use on my Defender or on my BladeDancer. I also really like the Lord of Wolves, but I'm bad with shotguns so I like them full auto. I also like certain fusions. In general I tend to lean towards high rof weapons over impact but I'm learning the skill it takes to use slower rof higher impact weapons. I tend to be middle of the pack in most PvP matches around 12-18 kills per match.

Shotguns are the saxophones of the Destiny world. Any asshole can grab one and get decent enough results from it, but it takes some serious skill to really master.
-
A shotgun with battle runner and Mida (with lightweight) on a max agility bladedancer (fleet footed) is fun. Kill with shotgun, switch to Mida, and run.
-
Everything is easy. Sniping is easy, using a shotgun is easy and so forth.
-
My party crasher with range finder, reinforced barrel and aggressive ballistics disagrees with ur post. I have never found a gun that kills ppl instantly at 10m. Keep saying they take skill.
-
I completely agree with this. I'm extremely formidable with a shotgun, above average with a sidearm, good with all classes, and most primaries. However, I can't use auto rifles at all. I understand that sniping is a skill, but it's just a bit easier than shotgunning in my eyes. The maps and mechanics lean toward sniping which makes shotgun running even more difficult.
-
There is no skill. Simple.
-
Yeah it takes mad skill to rush or hide behind a corner and shoot a rapid fire shotgun. It's so hard waiting for someone to come to the objective and shoot them, so hard ...
-
I agree but I hate shotgunners that only rush, no skill
-
Take Rangefinder off of shotguns, then we will see the truly skilled shotgunners.
-
If the person that youre attacking doesnt have a shotgun its not much skill. The time to kill with a primary is too slow, allowing a sprint slide shotgun. Obviously you can be stupid and run at someone from afar, but shotgunning is not a high skill high reward.
-
People need to take the pvp in this game for what it is Camping snipe lanes or shotgun rushing....pick your poison Truly skilled players can accomodate to other players and play styles rather than relying on camping a lane or their invective
-
I completely disagree
-
IMO, getting a kill with a shotgun requires minimal skill. Just aim in their general direction and squeeze the trigger. What does require skill is closing the gap, and picking your gunfights. It's pretty hard to warrior someone with a shotty head on (unless you have Juggernaut or Blink), so pushing is heavily reliant on your timing and your judgement. That's why I'm pretty bad at shotgunning.
-
People complaining XYZ takes no skill are just mad that it (whatever XYZ is) was the paper to their otherwise rock beat scissors tactics. Many folks are bad at adjusting tactics. Developing new strategies on the fly bc of the map, or the playstyle of their opponent. Asking for nerfs instead of learning to beat that which they are losing to.
-
Well I do agree in some points but it can be hard at times to go around a corner and kill two with clean shots bit if your able to land them they are great
-
Although there are very skilled players who use shotguns in comparison to average players. Most players are better with shottys. It does cater (at times) to less skill but that isn't to say shotguns take no skill. I do agree with you but do know when my tremors are bad it is far easier to hit a shot with a shotty then a sniper.
-
I can not shotgun properly, fusion yes, snipe a bit, but shotgun no. I have been on the receiving end many a time and some people are immense at use them, props to them.
-
I don't always shotgun But when I do I get rekt
-
The most used secondary in the history of destiny is a sniper rifle. This either means that a whole bunch of people are great snipers, or , it's because snipers are much easier to use. Stats don't lie. The truth is...a good shot gunner will almost always beat a good sniper.
-
It's easy enough to party.
-
Your drunk shoot melee guarantees a kill even if You somewhat miss no skill involved. Only skill in shotguns is getting a kill from 10 feet. I don't use shotguns but when others do I can pull one out and do the same with no practice.
-
I agree with you completely unless you use a party crasher +1 or conspiracy theory with range perks. I still think it's fair but those two guns with the right perks are ridiculous sometimes
-
Same people who say it's easy to use every gun are the same people with .6 kds.

Edited by gtarhro7: 5/14/2016 12:51:28 AMIt should be common Destiny forum knowledge that players here will try to belittle any gun or mechanic of the game because they got killed one too many times by it. Ignoring the fact that MAYBE, just MAYBE, there's someone out there in this world who's just a little better than they are.
