Reading in general is good. I loved Les Miserables, To Kill A Mockingbird, 1984. I just think that there are just some so-called "classics" that are no longer relevant, at least not to high-school students. What is the point of having a teenager read Great Expectations? Yes, it mocks Victorian society, but in case you haven't noticed, Victorian society kinda died out a century or so ago. Without that, all you have is a stuffy and boring book about some crazy hermit and a criminal. The difficulty in having a kid read something like Dickens is not worth whatever application the books may have to real life.
-
Reading is fun, learn to enjoy it and exercise your mind.
-
my mexy teachy who teaches mexcain doesn't speak a word of english. i can't even go to the bathroom because i don't know how to ask.
-
I don't understand why we have to read Dickens anymore. Yes, his stories were famous in his time for beinf satirical of Victorian life, but that really doesn't apply anymore. When you take away what makes his books "important", all you have is a boring and obsolete story written in incredibly obtuse language. There are better and more entertaining ways to learn about that time period than trying to slog through 400 pages of out-of-date crap.

It rarely worked for me. Ah well..... enjoy.

she is asking very in-depth qeustions. i cant copy anyones work for this one unfortunately. its not that hard though.
Posted by: FIRESTARTER010 Don't read it, just read a review from the internet and when your teacher asks what you thaught of it, tell her/him whatever the review says.
Take it from a guy that was in advance literature classes all four years of high school, it never works.
