Halo 2, Xbox LIVE and You
Microsoft announced today that Xbox LIVE support for original Xbox games will be discontinued on April 15, 2010.

I'm not cyring, I just have something in my eye. I met my best friends through work after discovering we were all Halo players. Can't believe it will be going away. And Tom, you will still be able to play campaign, you just can't log on to Live and play multiplayer. [Edited on 02.06.2010 9:53 AM PST]

To think that Halo 2 multi-player is was caused me to join this site back in 2004. I am sad, but then you look at it and realize that this game had a great run. Everything must come to an end at some point, unfortunate as it might seem. I will have to whip this bad boy out and give her a go before it is done for good.

this is -blam!- buss-blam!-! they cant -blam!- do this! -blam!- bungie. if you -blam!-s are gonna do this im not buying -blam!- reach! halo 2 was way better than halo 3! now they just take it away! at least remake a -blam!- 360 version of the game that has online. maybe better graphics. but keep the gameplay,maps,weapons and everythig else. also custimizable armor is cool so keep that. but halo 2 shouldnt end this way. it shouldnt end until bungie end. and the day halo 2 ends is the day bungie ends for me :@

That is so microsoft. Give us 2 months notice and then imedialty cut off content service so we can't grab the latest maps while we can. Those stupid -Blam's- can go the -Blam- to hell. Give us a rerelease Bungie and we will all buy it. I guarenty.

It's a shame since so many of us have paid for the service, only can afford the original XBOX in this economy, and get cut off. We should have a voice it this decision.

I can't believe this, is mircrosoft is really worried about a little money than making the fan base that made them who they are happy, then I say they charge extra to play the game online, I'd pay an extra twenty a year no problem, BUNGIE, you can't just sit by and watch them do this !! DO something, tell them what we're all saying here, Please .

I don't think I have quite 17,000 games logged, but I still play Halo 2 at least once a week be it online, or just LAN at my friends house since he has 2 TV's in his basement, we will still fire up the old Xboxes and do some 2 on 2 or 4 v 4. I know why Microsoft doesn't want to keep original Xbox games running on their service, but it is a shame because a lot of times it is hard to get 4 or 8 people together in a room for a couple of hours, online solves that because you can jump on with just one or two of your buddies at a time and if only for a few matches. I am going to keep playing up until April 15th, 2010, but it is weird that they are only giving like 3 months notice on the subject. I would have thought it would have been a year or at least 6 months. Pretty sudden if you ask me. What really would be nice, and I would slap down $20 or $30 bucks for it if you just ported Halo 1 and 2 to the Xbox 360 and then added online for the original Halo. Now I am not sure if you could do this because you have both Halo:CE and Halo 2 clocking in at about 3 gigs and 4.5 gigs, respectively which would fit, but now you factor in all the DLC for Halo 2 and then you would be cutting it close. So from what I've found online it looks like Microsoft has pulled the plug on all original Xbox DLC (well before the 4/15 cut-off date). For people with "damaged" Halo 2 map packs, is there any chance these could be put back online so we could play Halo 2 again before the cut-off date? Help us out here, Bungie!

BTW - Dear Bungie, If you are reading this, then I would seriously reccomend porting the PC version made by whatever studios and Bungie to 360, why? because porting the original Halo 2 would be a bit harder, due to graphics, shaders and all that BLAM. JUST PLEASSSEEEE FROM THE BUNGIE COMMUNITY AND SEPTAGON REMAKE THIS GAME!!!!!

today is a sad day. Bungie, can't you port the game to 360, you can make lots of sales from just porting it. On the bright side, Halo: Reach Beta might be out by then.

Yeah im in the same spot on that one. It doesn't say the maps are damaged it just refuses to let me play in the playlists that use them. Atleast we still have Halo 2 Vista. Micro$oft can go take thier idea's and shove em up thier -Blam- halo 2 is way more inportant than an expanded freinds list.

I guess nothing lasts forever & all good things must end. Halo 2 was certainly a good thing....Halo was the game that really got me into gaming and Halo 2 was the reason I got XBL. So many memories......I love Halo 3, but it just doesn't seem to have the same magic that I felt with Halo 2. I am hoping that Reach will at least satisfy the itch that was created with Halo 2. Will definately be playing Halo 2 while the opportunity still exists. April 15 will be a sad day indeed... [Edited on 02.06.2010 3:30 AM PST]

the Halo 2 era was mostly before my time, and thus has become a more mysterious and legendary phenomenon for me I'll definitely be playing it to get all the experiences possible in before it's gone... =(

Halo 2 was the funnest xbox live game I ever played in my life 5 years ago. Big team battle ranked was the funnest experience ever. Way more fun than halo 3, man that rank system was sooo sweet and so fun, it was way more serious to take a win or a loss. =(
