Well, if you read about how the Earth's magnetic field is formed, you'll learn that the core field of the planet is actually quite weak and delicate, and that the swirling currents of the mantel and inner core are what amplifies it. Based on this, if the core source of the field were to reverse polarity, like say, by flipping around, it would take a long time for the field to reduce to near nothing then build back up again. A field of that size would resist a change in polarity for thousands of years until it finally realigned with the source.

I learned a lot about magnets. I still have my doubts about reversal though. I am a creationist so the dates are, in my opinion, fake, however I have an open mind about the subject. My next question is, what causes reversal. Is it the rotation of the core or is it something else?

Well, this event has occured many many times, as has been evidenced by megnetic particles in lava flows and rifts, like on the ocean floor. I'll dig up some more stuff in Google. Even if it was true and they had proof I think the government would like to keep that top secret(If they were smart). Can you imagin how crazy people would go if Bush came out and announced that the world was gonna end in a few years.It would be total anarchy, Who is gonna listen to police, the army or anyone for that matter.

Oh man, we are all gonna die. Wait a minute we were gonna all die someday any way so at least we'll get to see the destruction of earth and then we can all brag in the after life about how we died at the destruction of earth and how awsome it was.
