NPC/Lore names

I am asking about the NPCs name meanings and the characters in the lore names meaning. I know this game is futuristic, so many of the names don't actually exist. But I know that its roots and phonetic sounds may come from similar words known, so if someone wants to help out my curiosity, this would be helpful. Also, this is good for people who want to role play with exotic names, as an exotic engram (long stretch for that joke).

The vex name obviously come from mythological monsters. Ishtar is the goddess of fertility in Hinduism (I think) Cerberus vae iii comes from Cerberus the Greek mythological dog with 2 or 3 heads (My Greek mythology is quite rusty) Eris = A moon Trials is obviously Egyptian themed Phalanx are named after something (Can't quite remember, I saw something about phalanx and I thought," Hey, that's from destiny")
A phalanx is an Ancient Greek military formation consisting of heavy infantry. -Rhitrix
Praetorians were some sort of Roman guards.
Praetorians led troop formations if I remember correctly. - SavageWolf
Dreg = Low, scum, bottom of the barrel Wyrms = Legless dragons
Vandals: the army and tribe that sacked Rome Legionaries: Roman infantry Centurion: Roman military officers that commanded up to 200 men Templars: related to the knight Templar of Europe, allegedly tasked with protecting the Holy Grail -Sullys201623
Gorgons are quite obviously based off of Greek mythological Gorgons which turned their prey to stone. If anyone could tell me any others, I will add them to this list.

      • The vex sub programs each have a meaning as well Hezen corrective is the Axis minds way of cleaning or correcting any flaw that impedes it's goal, for the sake of Ishtar it's the fallen and the guardians. And you may ask why they are not on Mars, that is because the vex do not have enough constructs to enable a axis mind to carry out commands for the corrective. The hezen protective is basically a construction crew or maintenance

      • Ocean of Storms on the Moon is both a play on words for the Sea of Tranquility but also related to a real region of the Moon. I forget it's name but it's along the line of Ocean of Storms.

      • Do you guys know about Orcus the demon lord from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons? Well, there is alot of similar things about him/her lore wise to our dear hive god Oryx. I think some Bungie workers are influenced by old rpg's they played back in the day. Also, compare the looks of our dear Oryx and Black Doom from Sonic the hedgehog. Check it out!

Praetorians (vex minotaurs) were Roman guards who protected important places and people within the Roman empire, mainly within Rome itself...much like US secret service is today. They were also deployed with regular army in certain areas that were strategic, or where leadership were stationed abroad. The vex seem to use these in the same way to guard the vog and its contents within...if anyone remembers that raid anymore :)

                    • You probably already know about the phalanx. Named after the Ancient Greek(?) military formation. Or whatever their version of a military was. It's like a wall of shields with spears sticking out of the gaps between the shields. Those with the shields protected the group (obviously) and those behind them would attack anyone who got close. Made it very easy to advance or retreat with minimal casualties You'll see the resemblance in the Valus Ta'aurc encounter. Three phalanxes will sit side by side in the centre of the room and fire at you from behind their shields.
Sorry if I got any information wrong but that's all I can remember
