• First part of your post doesn't make any sense.
Most of you who "Support marty" dont actually give a damn or really like his music you just say you do to fit in
I've followed Marty O'Donnell for over a decade, his music introduced me to video games (yes, not the other way around). Marty's music has helped me through tough times and made good times better. Stargazing is one of my hobbies, and we always take his music along, fits well while peering at the universe. People having different interests and likes doesn't make them liars or idiots. You seem to ride the haters' bandwagon, live and let live.

You are noticeably upset. Tell me, what has caused your utter distaste for this album and your cynical behaviour towards Marty? Surely no one would be so offended by a simple crowdfunding campaign without a good reason. Marty founded an independant game company that works with technology not yet publically available - no one is sure if this stuff will even be financially successful. Plus he bought a studio in downtown Bellevue and filled it with the most up-to-date Playstation VR and UE4 equipment and software. If you fail to realize the scope of his investment then I'm not sure you have any business jumping to conclusions about his motives or business plans. You're second paragraph is utter nonsense, I won't even bother addressing that.

  • Dude I think the issue is that this guy is a millionaire. Asking people to fund his album is a bit of a cheek. If u want to make an album it's you that needs to take the risk. This isn't an indie developer here. This is a tried and tested professional. If activision asked people to fund their next game up front would you still be all for it. I like the guy and it's terrible what happened to him. But trying to make an album while placing the risk on the buyers is wrong when you have someone as wealthy as this. Just my opinion

  • He has currently 192 thousand shares in bungie that they where ordered to give him back. It'll take you 2 mins to google the value of those shares. I'll wait here while you do that. All the info is there. Now please tell me he's not a millionaire.

  • Also you do know that bungie paid him 100 grand in damages and his FIRST instalment for shares he owned was 142 thousand dollars. That's the FIRST settlement. There is 250 grand almost and we haven't even talked about the royalties he collects from halo ect.

OK, I get where you're coming from, and I appreciate you not being an asshat when presenting your opinion, but I think you're overestimating Marty's wealth. Only a miniscule fraction of soundtrack revenue from Halo went straight to his pocket. And yes, he is an independent developer, because Highwire doesn't have a massive publisher throwing money at them. In addition to all the stuff I mentioned in the second paragraph of my comment you replied to, Marty battled in court for over a year against one of the biggest entertainment corporations in North America. Activision has bottomless pits of money to throw at a petty legal dispute. Marty doesn't. Unless you're in bed with the country's top lawyers (which Marty isn't), you're going to come out of that scenario with hundreds of thousands of dollars lost to legal fees and hiring proper legal representatives, among many other things. Obviously I don't know exactly how "rich" Marty is (very few people do, certainly none of us), but this is my reasoning as to why he could use some extra resources for this album.

  • I have a problem with a rich man asking a bunch of people who most likely have less money to donate to him so he can make a damn album........which is his job anyways. I dont walk around downtown asking those less fortunate than me to donate some gas money so I can get to work. My 2nd paragraph is not nonsense. 99% of "Marty fans" couldnt even tell you ONE single son of his. They just know it as that halo music

They just know it as that halo music
I've loved Marty's music for years now and have even managed to get a signed copy of the ODST soundtrack too. 'Siege of Madrigal', 'Rain', the 'High Charity Suite' and the second half of 'Black Tower' are a few of my favourites, in case you were wondering. But you don't have to own a CD or know the names of the tracks to be a fan of a composer or appreciate their music.

lol Im not saying there arent any real fans. Do you remember the day marty was fired? All of a sudden out of no where this forum was filled with a crazy amount of people talking about marty when his name was rarely mentioned beforehand. That is what bandwagon fans are And yes, in order to be a fan you defintiley need to know names of songs. Its like being a fan of the giolden state warriors yet not knowing any players besides steph curry "Oh you like the warriors? whose your favorite player besides curry" "I dont know their names they are just great!" "You like Adele? Whats your favorite song?" "Oh you know that one thats always on the radio" WHAT A FAN!

  • Read the second paragraph of my first reply once more, this time more carefully. Marty is not swimming in money like you think he is. Only a minuscule portion of soundtrack revenue from Halo went straight to Marty's pocket. Also, do you have any idea how much money it costs in lawyers and legal fees to win a case against one of the biggest entertainment corporations in North America? And, funny enough, you just contradicted your own argument. Marty doesn't have a son. Two daughters, actually. Once again, your lack of knowledge in this matter proves that you have no business drawing conclusions about Marty, his company, or his fanbase.
