It's been hard to think about much outside of the massive PvE content drought, but this topic has been on my mind for a while. In Y1 Exotic gear was exciting to get, and typically very rewarding. Aside from the tame perks of the new Y2 exotics, I believe that the power levels they drop at are unacceptable. In all of Y1 Exotics always dropped at the current highest level that any gear can drop. I believe this made these pieces feel even more exotic, outside of their unique exotic perks. When the Taken King launched and we were given this new leveling system my first assumption was the same assumptions we made in Y1. I can get one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece quick so I can bump my level up and start grinding the end game content sooner and more effectively. To see Xur selling 280 light exotics on the weekend feels like a disservice to the gear type. I believe that all exotics, regardless of your own light level, should drop at the highest current light level. My first counter thought to this idea is the fact that you would effectively farm exotics you don't want and use them to infuse your legendary gear to a higher light level, similar to the Black Spindle debacle when it first came to "light" in the community. I believe that it would be reasonable to make all exotics drop at the max level and make them off limits for infusion, similar to rare gear. I think this would effectively make exotics feel more exotic when they drop, and also prevent a flood of max level characters because of the current infusion mechanics. I won't pretend to know how difficult this would be to develop and launch in the game, but I hope that Bungie is able to see that they have essentially made exotics as important as legendary gear in Y2. I think this is a major issue because the exotic gear is one of the many unique factors that got me, and many others, hooked on this game. I currently have the game for both consoles, and have multiple characters that are above 310 on each platform. I want to be excited when I see an exotic drop now, instead of being let down that I have dismantle yet another 310 Crest of Alpha Lupi.
