In all seriousness, im just curious about the reason of why people from the USA refer to their country as America. It's not that i hate it, but being from America (the continent) makes me wonder... Are people from the USA self-centered enough to refer themselves as a whole continent??

Great question that I believe has deep roots beginning hundreds of years ago. Being from this country, I agree that the country should be referred to as USA or the United States
-
Because it's not The United States of America any longer. It's now America.inc
-
I usually say "The United States". I find it weird how it's refered to as America, even though it's only one country in America.
-
Because we already own all of you.
-
USA USA
-
It's because it's shorter than "the United States."
-
First... There is no such thing as "America" the continent. There are two continents, one called North America and one called South America.
-
Because the USA is the headliner. Canada and the countries to our south are just our backup dancers. You don't hear dizzy bitches say that they are going to the nuyorican production. They say they are going to a j-lo show.
-
It's kind of like how you say "wife" instead of "sister"

Because I'm not going to say United States of America every time I talk about the country.
-
I pleded that case with my aunt, she told me to shut my pie hole
-
United States of America is a long name, and a little stiff. America is just short. It doesn't hurt anything cuz no other country in the Western Hemisphere uses "America" in their country's name.
-
I say America because it takes less time than saying United States of America
-
because i dont :/
-
No im 'murican not american
-
Because the continents are the Americas. North and south. Simply America refers to the United States of America. For anybody who has basic comprehension skills, they can distinguish between America and the Americas.
-
United Statesman
-
Because USAian sounds dumb.
-
1) it's the Americas split into North, Central, and South. 2) United States of America 3) People on this continent have been called Americans for a long time.
-
Similar to saying Britain instead of UK, or how people used to say Russia instead of USSR. Acronyms don't roll off the tongue naturally in some cases. America is not as accurate, but people know what it means, so it is "accurate enough." Nobody else refers to themselves as Americans in general conversation. Maybe as North Americans, but not simply as Americans.
-
We didn't start that trend, but it's kind if hard to use USA since that's an abbreviation. You can say Canadian, but what do you say for the United States of [North]America? A USAn? A USman/USwoman? American is just easier to roll off of the tongue.
-
Laziness...
-
Is people. Idk guys is we? Lemme see
-
-
Because people who live in the US are 'Americans'. Americans = America
