Trials Lighthouse Sherpas, Good or Bad?

They are good, they help make a person's day and the Sherpa is giving back to the Community.

3283

They are bad, it lets people get flawless handed to them and the Sherpas are taking the fun out of trials.

Alright guys and girls, here is the deal, I have been posting of a few Trials Flawless Sherpa posts. I have a pretty high KD, a good medal score, and have been flawless almost 50 times. This attracted lots of people to reply to me. I told them to all PM me and we could work out details, but after awhile I started getting hate messages from either "Elitists" or people who have tried and failed many times at Flawless. The messages said things like "You're a scrub for doing carries, everyone needs to earn the Lighthouse with people on skill levels as themselves. If they have a 0.6, they play with maybe 0.8s and 0.7s. Stop doing carries, it's ruining trials" Personally I think that everyone should have the chance to see the light of mercury at least once, no matter the skill level of the player. What do you guys think of trials carries? Discuss freely! EDIT - If anyone wants to see mercury send GraffitiDrifter a friend request on Xbox One. I have about 50 lighthouse visits. • I'm fine with Sherpas and carries. It doesn't affect the way I play the game and it's great to see others helping. I was carried through my first nightfall and raid. Seeing the other people in my fireteam play as well as they did only made me want to play better and be more prepared the next time. I learned a lot from them. I usually do ToO every week just for the bounties. The best I've done was 5-7 wins. I'd like to make it to the Lighthouse on my own one day but I doubt it. Until then, I'll keep trying and improving (slowly).

  • One tries everyweek all three days..nothing, a guiardian level 290 gets carried in one day, not even trying at all, gets to the lighthouse in one go...well ill still collect my coins and my 50 legendary marks

  • Anybody willing to help lesser players should be commended. It's a selfless act. People who complain about players getting "carried" are pompous elitists who don't want to see anyone succeed unless they're of the "sweaty" variety. If a couple of sherpas are skillful enough to carry a weak player then the chances are they are skillful enough to beat most players anyway. Helping people is in no way a negative thing and naysayers should be ashamed of themselves.

    • The way I see it is simple, if you're not good enough you shouldn't make it. Granted matchmaking has a lot to do with why many don't but yeah. My team always stalls out on wins 5-8 and we're all pretty good players and take our losses as they come. Is it elitist to say that someone who cannot compete at the highest level doesn't deserve to go to the light house? No it's simply stating the truth. You grind out your losses and get better with your team to one day reach the milestone. Besides with the tier bounties everyone gets a trophy for participation so it's not like they're wasting their time. It's like saying hey I know I'm not good at cod but someone should let me on to optic gaming so I can know what it feels like to win the mlg world finals grand prize. And if they don't help you they're elitist pricks.

Carrying and sherpaing are different, carrying someone is wrong (I.E. Having them stay back while you and your teammate do all the work) while sherpaing is good (teaching someone the different lanes, how to play, what weapons to use, how to use them, and other points...)

It's a game. That shouldn't change the fact that lending your help to someone that couldn't do it on their own (such as lifting a box onto a shelf or helping them move) is a good and nice thing.

God, I carried a virgin to the lighthouse yesterday and his reaction made my day.<3 He told me that every week he kept losing at 8-1 and if I could help, and I got his flawless virginity.

            • I can see where both sides are coming from. On one hand I would like to get to the lighthouse on my own, and would love to grow as a player to achieve it. On the other hand I would love to play with players that have actually achieved the goal, for my chances are slim when I form the fireteams and none of us have been to the lighthouse. I don't think that Sherpas are a bad thing. I don't play nearly enough to find a good group to play with the Same players consistently. I really want to know what it's like to jump into a good team, because of the steep requirements set by players on LFG.

            • Its great that they can do that but on the other hand people are getting stuff they didn't earn. It's hard to say.

            • I think they are good. I've only been once. I like playing with my friends once in a while, but seeing the amount of frustration it causes in them, and me sometimes I'd rather not. But overall, at least its something to do. Which brings me to my first point. No matter what people say about 'earning' your way to the lighthouse, the short of it is, its not work. We actually play this game in order to avoid work. If playing this game was work, I'm sure the vast majority of the teenage player base would not be playing. Secondly, getting to the lighthouse was not a major accomplishment for them. Most of the players that got to the lighthouse didn't struggle. They were above average at pvp and got with other above average players at pvp and just did it. There was no Rocky-esque training montage were the team had to overcome mental and physical hurdles to tune their body and mind for this accomplishment. Now, of course there are those players that played for months diligently until they went from 6 or 7 wins to 9 wins. Now that's a little better story, and yes an accomplishment, but in the end you got two or three more wins off a card. Depending on who you play there's nothing to suggest this was the result of diligent training. I, and certainly others, have noticed there are certain points in the weekend that are easier or harder than others. Getting to the lighthouse is a small 'a' accomplishment. Meaning, yeah you did a thing, but that's it no stories are written about you and your name is not immortalized in stone (which is probably for the best since a lot of gamertags seem to be some combination of the words ass, weed and a sexual act). But thirdly, and probably the most unarguable point. There is nothing immoral about going out there are getting the best player you can find in order to help you out. That's basically what everyone does in literally every sport. If some team is not making the playoffs this year, the usual course of action is to throw a bunch of money at some free agents. No one cries that this is unfair because a team that sucks must practice more in order to make it. That's ridiculous, if things aren't going well, change it up. Why not get the superstar that can carry the team to a championship.

            • I agree with carries for sure. I mean I'd rather earn it myself if i was in that situation since being carried doesn't offer any fulfillment but that's their choice to go that path. I'd hope they would continue to try and get better to do it themselves rather than taking the easy route and asked to be carried every weekend.

They guys carrying deserve a lot of credit and are highly skilled tho as a result it cheapens the experience. You have scrubs running around with all the gear n guns they clearly did not earn were I sweat my balls off to feel the lighthouse sun on my back. That's just my opinion and don't want to cause offence either way.

            • I'm crap at PVP, but personally don't have any interest in ToO until I get my game up. However, I think the Sherpa carries are good for the simple fact that players are helping each other... What else do the eliteshitness play for?... Stats?

                • This is a casual FPS game with aim assistance, one hit kill supers, and 3 weapon slots on every character so everyone can run around with absurdly powerful special weapons. If this game even had the capacity to be as competitive as you're implying, it's still elitist and ruins Destiny for everybody to say that Sherpas "hand flawless to people who don't deserve it." The lighthouse means nothing. Let them get their hic jacet

                • Where is the neutral choice? It is a team event, therefore if the team can win they deserve it. On the other hand I would never search out someone to do the job for me just to get the reward. If I end up on a team that is above my skill level then so be it, but I'm not purposefully searching one out. If someone else does do this, it doesn't effect me or my choices what so ever. Only thing worse then someone saying I bought the game so I deserve everything is someone whining about what someone else has because they don't feel the person deserves it.

                  • I try every week to get 5-7 wins. Never made it to 7 and 5 only a couple times. People I do know that play well and have seen the Lighthouse don't really try when I am playing. The people I get on LFG are just doing bounties like me and are not always the best players but they try harder than others I know. All in all, It is not a good game mode for me and I could use experienced players to teach me and play as good as they can when doing trials. I think the more skilled players are just farming coins and helping me get bounties. not wins. But these are really my issues and have nothing to do with the mode itself.
