To me it's like the Jurassic World of A New Hope, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I went into it expecting to just be entertained, so I wasn't disappointed. One of my misgivings about the movie includes the mind trick thing. It makes no sense to me that she would know the "protocol" for doing it and actually pull it off with what is presumably no training at all. Fighting against Kylo's influence and finding out his fear makes sense, but that's because those don't really require the finesse that I imagine forcing someone to do what you want does.
