So... Sparrow Racing League (SRL). Honestly, It's great. It has some flaws, but otherwise a very positive experience. This is probably my favorite competitive mode. Due largly to the fact that it's fun, free (mostly) from the regular destiny lag-vantage. There aren't really any bullshit deaths, and best of all when I'm actually beaten, it's because the other player was actually better than me. When I'm in 2nd or 3rd place i follow the leader everywhere he goes, it has revealed interesting shortcuts thus far. I like the racing. Good stuff 1. This is the most balanced competitive mode in destiny. 2. Getting slammed into a wall actually gives me a little chuckle 3. There's nothing more fun than pushing another sparrow off a cliff 4. It's fun, and sold to you that way, 0 frustration 5. You can use a 3oC in this mode. Not kidding already scored a 310 Truth and a 310 No Backup Plans 6. It's been rewarding for the most part. I haven't scored anything [legendary] above 290 light yet, but i imagine it may come at higher rep. 7. You get crucible rep! This is nice for people that don't enjoy crucible, but still want some of the gear from the quartermaster. Bad stuff, 1. The usual destiny PvP lag causes some....interesting... things. (a) The players around you are teleporting all over the place (b) Lag causes race position to update very slowly (c) had a race where there was a tie for 3rd AND 4th place. due to lag 2. The way the sparrow handles is a little strange, slides a lot through turns, tighten up physics a little bit (i understand this may not be a small task) 3. some of the gates are oriented at odd angles, sometimes forcing you to point your sparrow at a wall to get it. 4. Brakes are pointless, I've had better luck letting off the throttle for a split second to get through a tight turn. 5. Fuel display is very very small, and located in an unfriendly position on the screen. Making it much larger and leaving it in the corner will really help out. The in between good and bad stuff 1. Only 2 tracks. I don't believe this is a bad thing, it makes the mode easier to learn due to not having to memorize a bunch of tracks, but there's nothing wrong with wanting more places to race. (us wanting more destiny stuff is a good problem for bungie to have) 2. No interesting perks/buffs/incentive on hitting high amounts of gates consecutively. Not really a big deal, but sometimes i get the "oh screw it who cares attitude" and will intentionally skip a gate if it forces me to go out of my way. This would definitely provide a more competitive race environment. Some of my first place finishes were 20sec+ lead. The people at the back of the pack would benefit most from a mechanic like this, because their gates are huge, it also punishes the leader of the race more for missing a gate. 3. I've noticed some people in my fireteam during the races get a little irritated when they are in 6th place and a mile away from the pack. Providing a catch up bonus for people in last place that are that far behind will keep the pack tighter, and provide a better experience for people that are struggling to get those top 4 finishes. Overall This is a blast, and i recommend it to everyone. The normal destiny PvP lag BS is there, but there's no shooting, so it's effect is minimal. I'm having lots of fun, and i'll be chasing the 320 drops for the next few weeks. Hope everyone finds this helpful. (side note) I've finished 1st 8 times in my 15 races so far.

  • Not into any of the festival's. But glad they are available for the players that enjoy them.

  • The red bar crap is getting old. Watching sparrows jump everywhere. SRL needs to go if they can not fix it.

    • SRL needs a permanent position amongst the multiplayer in Destiny. It's different and more variety in destiny will bring in many different types of players. The only thing that needs a slight tweak is when I'm racing neck and neck my sparrow freaks out and rolls over a opponent and sends me flying around to regain my momentum. To be honest tho! It's more of a incentive for me to win and get ahead of the pack so it's not a fluster cluck! Lol the rewards are sweet! I am diggin the gear and shaders and I'm probably gonna get a 320 helmet before the Kings fall gives me one! :) major hype Bungie! And plus jazz hands emote! Simply the best

    • Love the idea. Physics are unpredictable, collisions are not consistent, sparrow reacts to small obstacles some of the time, gates are given when I thought I missed them, and are not at times I did. Overall: love the idea, inconsistencies make it too frustrating. Still going to keep giving it a shot though

    • I didn't think I'd like Sparrow Racing as much I do, but it's fun as hell. I kinda agree with you for the most part. I just disagree with the "giving last place more of a boost" and "the brakes are bad" parts. The braking can be a little tricky but, if you time it right, you will turn corners easier and pull more of a lead. For example; you know that turn on the Venus map, Infinite Descent, after the huge jump near the big Fallen ship? Most people just slam right into the arrows but if you brake in time, you have a smooth turn and can hit the following gate much easier. The part about giving people in last place more help; ehh, I mean they give them the largest gates for a reason. It won't be as fun/competitive if you give last place a huge benefit. I totally agree with you about the physics stuff. The landings feel inconsistent. When I do the Venus track, after the jump, landing it will sometimes make me flip out of control or make me hop. I can land the same way in roughly the same place and sometimes I land without any problem. Also, hitting the gates seems a little arbitrary as well. Sometimes; when I think I shouldn't have hit a gate, I hit the gate. Sometimes; when I think I should of hit the gate, I don't hit the gate. I don't know what's up with this but it feels like the edges of the gate expand/contract in the code but it's not being properly relayed to the visual side of things. Just my thoughts, but I'm glad there are people who really enjoy Sparrow Racing (though, hearing Holiday say "S-R-L" in that slow tone gets very annoying, very quickly. Also the horns are hilarious).

      • The only reason I can see a Destiny player playing Sparrow Raceing is because they have no other way to reach 320. It's not a raceing game and it's a far cry from comeing close to anything resembling raceing......just another place for kids to F around, Bungie should have put the time and effort into something more game oriented. If I wanted to play a raceing game I'd play a raceing game, I want to play a first person shooter and expect resources to be focused on that.

I had a lot of fun doing sparrow racing and I think they should keep it in the game. but they should add more maps and maybe abilities to make it harder for people to keep first place and stuff and add more different kinds of armor and sparrows maybe like exotic racing armor or sparrows. Oh and fix the loot system for it cause for people that come in first don't all ways get good loot but people that come 6th or something get better loot. so most of time it seems like there's not point to be in first if I'm not going to get good loot for being in first place every time. also make the mobs on the track more aggressive or make to where if they shot you it would slow you down or blow up your sparrow so you would have to try to avoid there shots. cause I felt like they were no threat to me the only things I felt like would stop me from getting to 1st , 2nd, 3rd , etc was the walls and the fan blades. All most forgot to say maybe sparrow racing should be weekly or monthly p.s. will edit this post if i can think of something else to add to it

      • Good thoughts pretty much agree. Gotta say I was kicking ass the first night got on last night and a lot of people had been practicing. Think I only had like 3 wins but a ton of hard fought races. Funny how hard that last lap is with the lead lol.

            • I got a 308 helmet drop from SRL. Quite surprising. The game mode is fun, some players are dirty and try to ram players off the track, some players focus on the track. I prefer the latter, more consistent getting into the lead.

            • Game mechanics don't add up. People on my team will pass me as we both scratch are heads. Clearly the same issues they have across all PVP modes. Trolls like that prevent people from tell Bungie how they feel. This is the feed back forms. If people don't give feed back then Bungie will think it's ok to keep charging for broken DLC.
